Expert Review: Paradero Todos Santos – Exclusive Experiences

Paradero Todos Santos – Exclusive Experiences, a Michelin Key One-Key property in Todos Santos, Mexico, offers a distinctive and highly acclaimed retreat that blends Brutalist architecture with the serene desert landscape, focusing on sustainability and immersive guest experiences.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

Paradero Todos Santos generally garners overwhelmingly positive sentiment, recognized by the Michelin Guide with One Key, signifying a "very special stay." Guests frequently describe their experience as "beautiful," "amazing," and "unique," highlighting the resort's captivating ambiance. While some travelers initially express apprehension regarding the raw concrete, Brutalist architectural style, this feeling often gives way to appreciation for its seamless integration with the surrounding environment. The resort is celebrated as a sanctuary for those seeking minimalist, sustainable luxury and an authentic exploration of Mexico. It has also received a 2026 Forbes Travel Guide Star Award, indicating an outstanding experience and a highly customized level of service.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently praise several aspects of Paradero Todos Santos:

  • Design & Aesthetics: The hotel's Brutalist architecture, designed by Rubén Valdez and Yashar Yektajo, intentionally blends into the desert, utilizing sand-colored concrete and natural palettes to emphasize indoor-outdoor living. The property's high-design landscapes and undulating concrete structures are carved by the desert winds, creating visually stunning spaces.
  • Amenities & Wellness: A breathtaking 130-foot-long infinity pool and an oasis-like Ojo de Agua Spa are central features. The property emphasizes sustainability, notably by avoiding single-use plastics in rooms. There's also an open-air "Living Room" that serves as a multi-purpose hub for gathering and activity planning.
  • Exclusive Experiences: Paradero is renowned for its immersive activities, many of which are included in the stay. These range from morning yoga and daily guided hikes to meditation sessions, fitness classes, and farming/gardening instruction. Paid experiences like surf lessons, cooking classes, sunset beach setups, temazcal ceremonies, sound healing, and ocean safaris are also available.

3. Room Quality

The hotel comprises 35 luxurious all-suite accommodations, offering expansive indoor and outdoor living spaces that range from 780 to 2,674 square feet. Rooms are designed with a natural color palette, complemented by Mexican textiles and custom-crafted furnishings. Standard features include king beds and spa-like bathrooms.

  • Garden Suites: Located on the lower level, these suites extend into the landscape with outdoor lounges, hammocks, and some even include outdoor circular soaking tubs.
  • Rooftop Suites: These offer panoramic rooftop living areas equipped with plush daybeds and built-in "star nets" for stargazing.
  • Design Philosophy: Windows are strategically placed to encourage cross-ventilation, minimizing the need for air conditioning. In line with the resort's focus on disconnecting and immersing in nature, rooms do not have televisions, mini-bars, or coffee machines.

4. Dining Experience

Dining at Paradero Todos Santos is a highlight, featuring TENOCH by Paradero Todos Santos, a Michelin-recognized restaurant. The restaurant operates with an open kitchen and an Oaxacan clay oven, serving a contemporary Mexican menu with Japanese influences. A strong emphasis is placed on locally sourced, sustainable, and often farm-to-table ingredients, with many items cultivated in the hotel's own gardens.

Notable menu items frequently praised include freshly made tortillas, delicious burritos, hamachi tostadas, softshell crab tacos, ceviche, and short rib. Guests also rave about the unique Mezcalita cocktails. Breakfast typically features favorites like burritos, avocado toast, and chilaquiles. While some reviewers laud the food as "excellent" and "out of this world," a few have noted limited options for specific dietary needs, such as a smaller vegan menu, though what is offered is described as flavorful.

5. Service & Staff

The staff at Paradero Todos Santos is largely commended for their warmth, friendliness, knowledge, and attentiveness, with many guests feeling that the team anticipates their needs. Reviews highlight their pride and pleasure in their work, which contributes to a truly special experience.

However, there have been some criticisms regarding service inconsistency. One detailed complaint described "worst service experienced," citing inattentive and unfriendly wait service, excessively long waits for dishes (up to an hour), unfulfilled orders, and significant menu item unavailability due to a lack of ingredients. Some reviews also suggest that the service doesn't always align with the hotel's 5-star pricing.

6. Location & Accessibility

Paradero Todos Santos is situated in Todos Santos, a "charming," "sleepy surf town" in Baja California Sur. It is about an hour's drive north of Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) via the well-maintained Highway 19. The resort itself is nestled within a desert landscape, bordered by farmlands and the Sierra Laguna Mountains.

While the property offers a tranquil escape, guests often recommend renting a car, preferably an SUV or Jeep due to unpaved local roads, to explore the surrounding area and downtown Todos Santos, which is roughly a 15-20 minute drive away. Tolls on Highway 19 require cash. The hotel is conveniently close to Palm Beach and 2.2 km from San Pedrito Beach.

7. Value & Pricing

Paradero Todos Santos is positioned as a luxurious, eco-minded hotel, with room rates typically starting between $550 and $715 per night. Many guests feel that the unique design, comprehensive experiences, and overall ambiance justify the cost, deeming it "worth the price."

However, some guests have expressed concerns about the value for money, especially in light of perceived service shortcomings. There are sentiments that the "5-star prices are not in-line with the 3-star service" and that the resort can seem "overpriced for what it is."

8. Common Complaints

Recurring issues and criticisms reported by guests include:

  • Inconsistent Service: The most significant complaint centers on the service, particularly in the restaurant. Guests have reported slow and inattentive wait staff, long waits for food, dishes not arriving, and a notable lack of available ingredients on the menu.
  • Lack of In-Room Amenities: Some guests miss standard luxury hotel amenities such as mini-bars, coffee machines, refrigerators, and televisions in their rooms.
  • Limited Gym Facilities: While there is an open-air gym, it's described as having limited equipment (a few weights and yoga mats), which might not suffice for guests seeking a full-fledged fitness center.
  • Perceived Overpricing: Despite the unique experience, some guests feel the cost is high, particularly when service issues are encountered.
  • Limited Vegan Options: While flavorful, the vegan menu is noted for its limited variety.

Paradero immediately caught my eye with its design and its setting in one of my favorite places on earth, Baja California. The hotel fully embraces the Baja aesthetic, from expansive views to unforgettable sunsets. Every corner feels intentional and calm. The activities curated by the staff were outstanding. The instructors are top class. I highly recommend yoga with Ana, surfing lessons with Davi...

One of the best holiday trips we’ve taken yet, and undoubtedly the best way to kick off a new year! There are simply too many great things to say about Paradero, but the ambience, curated guest experiences, and extraordinary service from staff are top of mind! Absolutely enjoyed the beach days (including the sunset and got lucky to see some whales!), mountain hikes, star gazing by the fire, and t...

We stayed at Paradero Los Cabos for 1 night, and the service here has been absolutely superb. A special shoutout to the concierge, Diane, who truly went above and beyond in every possible way. We got a little lost on our way to the resort, and Diane, along with Jose, literally walked a long distance to find us and make sure we were heading in the right direction. From the moment we arrived, she g...

Makes for nice pictures, but not a great location (nowhere near a beach, you hear cars all night). The folks who work there are super nice, but can’t make up for the spotty service. Transportation was always late, they ran out of everything in the restaurant. There are so many bugs and they get everywhere (pillows, toilets). For the cost, it feels like Paradero should be a much better hotel experi...

They did not load one of our bags into our hotel shuttle and didn’t return it for over 3 months and we had to pay out of pocket to receive it. It was very frustrating after spending so much to stay in the first place. We had a great time during our stay, but this took away from that experience with the amount of time and dedication we had to devote to get our clothing back.

The most beautiful, serene, romantic, and delicious destination. We visited for our 10 year anniversary and could not be happier with the quality of everything. What topped it off though was the service. We loved all the people working there - they were so friendly and went out of their way to help. Five stars over and over.
