Expert Review: Nobis Hotel Stockholm

Nobis Hotel Stockholm, a Michelin Key One-Keys property, consistently garners praise for its prime location, sophisticated design, and attentive service, offering a blend of historic charm and contemporary luxury.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

Nobis Hotel Stockholm generally receives "Very Good" to "Excellent" ratings across various platforms, with an average score of 8.6 out of 10 on Booking.com, and a "Very good" rating of 8.6 out of 10 from 1558 verified ratings on KAYAK. It is often described as a top luxury hotel in Stockholm, known for its elegant and stylish atmosphere.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently laud the hotel's exceptional central location on Norrmalmstorg Square, its striking design, and the friendly, helpful staff. The hotel's ability to blend its 19th-century building heritage with sleek, modern Scandinavian interiors designed by Claesson Koivisto Rune is a significant draw. Amenities such as the well-regarded breakfast, the vibrant Gold Bar, and a 24-hour fitness center with a steam room and sauna are also frequently highlighted.

3. Room Quality

The 201 rooms at Nobis Hotel Stockholm feature modern décor, climate control, flat-screen cable TVs, and marble bathrooms. Many rooms offer views of the city or the hotel's atrium. Design elements emphasize subdued natural colors and materials, along with fine craftsmanship, providing a sophisticated and elegant feel. In-room amenities typically include minibars, robes, slippers, premium bedding, hairdryers, and free WiFi. While generally appreciated, some guests have noted that certain rooms can be small, and a few reviews mentioned rooms feeling "rather dated" but clean. Issues with thin walls leading to noise from adjacent rooms have also been reported by some guests. Poor lighting in rooms, with some still using filament light bulbs, was also a minor point of criticism.

4. Dining Experience

Nobis Hotel Stockholm offers a notable dining experience with its two Italian-influenced restaurants: NOI (formerly Caina) and Bistro Bino. Restaurant NOI serves modern dishes with European influences in an elegant setting, while Bistro Bino offers traditional, rustic Italian fare in a more informal space.

The breakfast buffet receives mixed but generally positive reviews. Many guests describe it as "excellent" and "second to none," with a wide selection of hot and cold items, including fresh fruits and pastries. However, some have found the breakfast to be average for a luxury 5-star property, and the breakfast/restaurant area can feel old-fashioned or too small. Breakfast is typically available for a fee. The hotel's Gold Bar, decorated with golden mirrors, is popular for its classic and innovative cocktails and lively atmosphere, especially on weekends.

5. Service & Staff

The service and staff at Nobis Hotel Stockholm are consistently praised for being friendly, attentive, helpful, efficient, and professional. Guests often highlight their kindness and willingness to accommodate requests. The 24-hour concierge service is also noted as a valuable amenity.

6. Location & Accessibility

The hotel boasts an "amazing" and "superb" central location on Norrmalmstorg Square, placing guests in the heart of Stockholm's main shopping, business, and entertainment district. It is within easy walking distance to major shopping streets like Drottninggatan and Biblioteksgatan, department stores like NK, and popular nightlife areas like Stureplan. Cultural attractions such as the Royal Dramatic Theatre (200m away), the National Museum, Stockholm Palace, and Gamla Stan (Old Town) are also easily accessible. The Östermalmstorg subway station is just 100 meters away, providing excellent public transport links.

7. Value & Pricing

Nobis Hotel Stockholm is positioned as a luxury property, with room rates varying significantly. Prices can range from approximately $188 to over $3,000 depending on the room type, season, and day of the week. While at the higher end of Stockholm's hotel market, many guests feel the hotel offers good value for money given its prime location, stylish ambiance, and excellent service. Cheapest deals are generally found in March and January, with Saturday or Friday offering better rates.

8. Common Complaints

Despite the high praise, some recurring criticisms include:

  • Noise levels: Guests occasionally report noise from the street, the indoor courtyard, or due to thin walls between rooms.
  • Breakfast experience: While often excellent, some found the breakfast quality average for a luxury hotel or the dining area to be old-fashioned and too small.
  • Room size: Some standard rooms are noted as being quite small.
  • Elevators: Limited elevators can lead to long waiting times, especially during busy periods.
  • Lighting: Poor lighting in some rooms, with dated filament bulbs, was mentioned.
  • Spa/Wellness: The sauna and steam room are described as smaller and more basic than expected, sometimes being cold unless pre-arranged. The hotel also lacks a full spa, though treatments can be arranged nearby.

One of the best hotels I have stayed in for my stays! Amex members, this is totally worth it! Located in the center of everything and literally great service all around. When I come visit Sweden again, definitely coming to stay again! Thank you to the entire staff!

It’s insanity to me that this hotel is 5-stars. Service is very good. But the room is so small you cannot properly open both sides of a checked bag, the mattress is single (not queen) and it’s as thin as possible. They will provide a second thin mattress if requested, which will not be large enough for the single bed, so you will need to squeeze even more to fit in the bed lol and that’s bc I’m am...

Nobis Hotel in Stockholm is a really beautiful place right in the city center and just a short walk from Gamla Stan. Plenty of restaurants and shops are close by. The hotel itself and our room were very nice and the breakfast was great with super friendly staff. The gym was okay and the sauna was not exactly what I expected in a country like Sweden. Still we were fully satisfied with our stay and ...

Nobis has great location to access all attractions, shopping places and restaurants. It’s also an iconic building with story. Cozy room and upgraded. Nice front desk. When I found problem of room lights, they fixed when I hang out. Pretty promising. Would love to come back and stay again.

Nice hotel. I stayed for work so it wasn’t me paying, which means I have no quality/price perspective. I can say though that the staff are all totally lovely and professional and welcoming. Unfortunately, as others have commented, theres a noise issue. My room was on the 2nd floor facing the interior patio, and every night the music from the patio was inescapable, Friday night being especially int...

This place is Scandinavian perfection. Everything that was done here was done to a high standard, every need and request was met and they've got a great restaurant to boot. This is one of those places that command a high pricetag because they ARE WORTH the high pricetag. I wish I was able to stay longer but when I am back in Stockholm I plan to do everything in my power to stay here. Location yes,...
