Expert Review: Nau Royal Hotel Boutique & Spa
Nau Royal Hotel Boutique & Spa in São Sebastião, Brazil, stands out as a Michelin Key Selected property, consistently praised for its luxurious, intimate, and romantic beachfront experience. Catering exclusively to adults, it's an ideal retreat for couples seeking relaxation and personalized service amidst stunning natural beauty.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The overall sentiment for Nau Royal Hotel Boutique & Spa is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing their stays as "wonderful," "excellent," and "charming." It is recognized as a luxurious and romantic escape, celebrated for its serene ambiance and high-standard accommodations. The hotel maintains an impressive guest review score, indicating a very satisfying experience for most visitors.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently laud the hotel's prime beachfront location on Cambury Beach, offering direct access to the sand and breathtaking ocean views. The eco-friendly design and architecture by Sergio Coelho, which seamlessly blends with the natural landscape of the Atlantic Ocean and rainforest, are also highly appreciated. The adults-only policy fosters a tranquil and romantic atmosphere, perfect for honeymoons and special celebrations. Amenities like the Spa by L'Occitane, a large outdoor pool, and a heated jacuzzi further enhance the luxurious experience. The personalized and attentive service is a recurring highlight.
3. Room Quality
Nau Royal offers an exclusive collection of just 13 to 15 sophisticated suites, ensuring an intimate atmosphere. The rooms are tastefully decorated in a minimalist, modern style with light tones and contemporary art pieces. Each accommodation boasts a private balcony or terrace, providing privileged views of either the sea, the lush gardens designed by Marcelo Bellotto, or the Atlantic rainforest. Guests can expect comfortable queen or super king-sized beds, efficient air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and luxurious L'Occitane amenities. Specific room types include the Garden room with a hammock, the Al Mare suite with an oceanfront balcony and separate living room, and the expansive Royal Trussardi penthouse suite featuring a super king bed and a bathroom with a Japanese-style bathtub and dual showers.
4. Dining Experience
The dining experience at Nau Royal is highly praised, particularly at its Azul Marinho restaurant (also referred to as Yye Resto). Chef Marleide Ribeiro is celebrated for championing local Brazilian fare, with a special emphasis on freshly caught seafood and crab, making the restaurant a popular destination for food enthusiasts. The breakfast is a standout, described as "wonderful" and "delicious," served à la carte with a wide variety of fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented options. Guests have the delightful option of enjoying their personalized breakfast on the deck with a direct view of the ocean. The restaurant also provides traditional and exclusive snacks for guests by the pool and on the beach. A tasting menu is available by advance reservation.
5. Service & Staff
The service and staff at Nau Royal consistently receive exceptional feedback. Guests frequently highlight the team's attentiveness, professionalism, and genuine hospitality. Descriptions like "spectacular," "attentive and helpful," and "exceptional" are common, with many feeling "pampered" from before check-in. The staff is noted for going above and beyond to ensure a memorable stay, assisting with romantic celebrations and personalized requests.
6. Location & Accessibility
The hotel boasts an enviable "pé na areia" (feet in the sand) location on Cambury Beach in São Sebastião, on São Paulo's northern coast. It is strategically positioned between the Atlantic Ocean and the Atlantic rainforest, offering a unique natural setting. While offering a secluded feel, it's approximately a three-hour drive from Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) or about 90 kilometers from São José dos Campos Airport (SJK). The hotel is a convenient base for exploring nearby natural attractions, including trails to waterfalls like Cachoeira de Camburi, and deserted beaches accessible by boat trips.
7. Value & Pricing
Nau Royal Hotel Boutique & Spa is positioned as a luxury property, reflected in its pricing. Rates typically start around BRL 2,945.00 per night for a 7-night package, with individual nights potentially around BRL 3,000 or even higher, with one booking site showing R$ 4,637 for a single night. While guests universally praise the quality of the experience, facilities, and service, the "value for money" score of 6.7 on Booking.com suggests that for some, the high cost is a significant consideration, even if the overall experience is deemed excellent. Despite this, the consensus is that the luxurious environment and exceptional service make it a worthwhile indulgence for those seeking a high-end, romantic getaway.
8. Common Complaints
While specific "complaints" are not frequently highlighted in negative terms, the primary point of consideration for guests is often the price, as indicated by a "value for money" score of 6.7 on Booking.com. This suggests that while guests appreciate the luxury and service, some may find the cost to be on the higher side. Additionally, the hotel's policies of being adults-only and requiring a minimum two-night stay (or even longer for special packages) are essential for maintaining its exclusive romantic ambiance but naturally limit its appeal to travelers with children or those looking for shorter stays.

This hotel is a slice of paradise. The hotel is situated directly on Cambury beach, personally the most beautiful in all of SP state. Unlike other towns, filled with commercialism and restaurants, this beach is peaceful and residential, not too busy even on sunny days. The hotels front facing rooms and stunning outdoor area have an incredible view of the sea. The hotel staff are very warm, welcomi...

The hotel is very nice in general, the service was outstanding (very kind personnel), the hotel room was ok, but nothing fancy. It is super expensive compared to the value obtained. For the same price you could get an all inclusive resort in the Caribbean. I was actually expecting much more for what I paid.

Came here for a wedding. For the price, around 3k BRL daily I was expecting a real 6 stars service. Everything starts with the small parking lot. Considering the car size in BR is getting bigger, the space is to fit comfortably a 500 Fiat insteady. The check-in is burocratical and slow. The room chosen, the Loccitane suite, is in the 1st floor with a very shy entrance. The room at first impress...
