Muaré Tulum Hotel: A Serene Jungle Oasis with Exceptional Service

Muaré Tulum Hotel, a Michelin Key Selected property, offers an enchanting escape in the heart of Tulum's jungle, blending modern luxury with traditional Mayan architecture and bohemian aesthetics. Guests consistently praise its tranquil atmosphere, stunning design, and the exceptional hospitality of its staff.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

Muaré Tulum enjoys an excellent reputation, holding an 8.9/10 score based on over 340 reviews. The overarching sentiment is one of serenity, tranquility, and admiration for the "amazing" and "beautiful" tropical oasis the hotel provides. Many guests describe it as a hidden gem, providing a relaxing holiday experience and a deep connection with nature.

2. Key Highlights

Guests are particularly fond of the hotel's ability to create a serene and quiet environment within the vibrant Tulum area. The hotel's bohemian style decor and design are frequently highlighted as "lovely and eye-catching" and "harmonious." The attentive and friendly staff consistently receives high praise for going "above and beyond" to ensure a wonderful stay. The property's numerous pools, including private plunge pools in most rooms, along with main pools, a cold plunge, and a hot tub, contribute significantly to the luxurious and relaxing vibe. Complimentary morning yoga sessions and a dedicated "Healing Center" also stand out as key amenities.

3. Room Quality

The 26 adult-only rooms are described as "beautifully designed," "very comfortable," "spacious," and impeccably clean. Each villa opens onto a private garden, featuring its own temperature-controlled plunge pool, with some rooms also offering hammocks. The decor maintains a neutral palette, utilizing natural fibers like cotton, linen, and jute, along with organic elements such as stone, shell, and wood, to create a soothing and earthy ambiance. Rooms come equipped with air-conditioning, a mini-bar stocked with healthy snacks, an espresso machine, and Aloevida bath products. While most aspects of the rooms are highly praised, some guests note that rooms generally do not include televisions.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel's signature restaurant, Gaudea, and its mixology bar receive excellent feedback. Gaudea serves a unique blend of Mexican and Mediterranean flavors, with dishes such as whipped cheese with honey and pomegranate, crispy octopus with chipotle, and baked fish. Breakfast, often included in the room price, is particularly lauded for its variety, offering healthy smoothies, power shots, and bowls featuring ingredients like shredded coconut, cacao nibs, fresh fruit, and nut butters. Guests describe the food and drinks as "delicious" and "great." Room service is also available.

5. Service & Staff

The service at Muaré Tulum is a standout feature, with guests consistently reporting the staff as "exceptional," "super attentive," "extremely helpful and friendly," and "kind." Many reviewers highlight that the team "went above and beyond" to cater to their needs, assisting with activity coordination and transportation via WhatsApp, and even making special occasions like birthdays memorable. Individual staff members such as Octavio, Brian, and Dario are specifically mentioned for their outstanding hospitality.

6. Location & Accessibility

Muaré Tulum is situated in the La Veleta district, offering a peaceful "jungle" setting away from the more hectic areas of Tulum. It is conveniently located approximately 5 minutes from the Caribbean Sea and about 10 minutes from significant attractions like archaeological sites, natural cenotes, and theme parks. While the hotel provides a complimentary beach shuttle service to the Tulum Zone and offers bicycles for guest use, navigating beyond the property often requires a car or taxi due to its secluded location. Guests have noted that access roads to the hotel can be in poor condition or muddy. The hotel's design, with upper floors accessible only by stairs and gravel public areas, makes it challenging for wheelchair users.

7. Value & Pricing

While the hotel is recognized for its luxury and unique experience, pricing varies. Rooms start from around $389, and some guests consider it "affordable compared to other beachside hotels." However, others have found the services to be "a bit on the pricey end." Typical prices average around $289 for weeknights and $466 for weekend nights, with January being the most expensive month.

8. Common Complaints

Despite overwhelmingly positive feedback, some recurring issues have been noted by guests:

  • Mosquitoes: Some guests reported significant issues with mosquitoes, particularly at night.
  • Noise: There have been mentions of construction work near the hotel that can cause noise.
  • Road Conditions: The roads leading to the property can be in bad shape or muddy, making access challenging.
  • Pricing of Extras: Mini-bar items can be expensive, and access to the spa area might incur an additional fee.
  • Room Amenities: A common observation is the absence of televisions in the rooms.
  • Wellness Facilities: Some guests experienced issues with the steam room not functioning optimally, and private plunge pools occasionally not reaching desired temperatures even after pre-heating.
  • Accessibility: The hotel is not easily navigable for wheelchair users due to its jungle setting, gravel paths, and stairs.
  • Service Delays: A few reviews indicated long wait times for breakfast service.

We stayed here for 10 nights in February with my partner and had an amazing trip. The hotel is located down some bumpy roads, but we had no issues in a standard sedan as long as we drove slowly. It’s about a 15-minute walk from La Veleta, which has loads of great food options (Burrito Amor is a must). We much preferred staying in Tulum town rather than the beach area, as everything was far more a...

This is probably my favorite hotel I’ve ever stayed at. It’s genuinely serene—no party vibe at all. The whole place feels like a quiet oasis away from the busy areas, and even the guests seem to keep it calm (people are literally whispering). The free breakfast is so good and actually feels like a real breakfast, not just basic continental stuff. It includes fresh bread, a fruit plate, coffee, ju...

Stayed at Hotel Muare and it truly felt like a hidden oasis in Tulum. The entire vibe is calm, aesthetic, and perfectly curated — from the private villa-style rooms to the beautiful jungle surroundings. The design is modern yet earthy, giving that luxury-meets-nature experience Tulum is known for. The private plunge pool was a highlight — perfect for relaxing after a day out. Service was warm an...

This place is amazing! So incredibly zen. The service is impeccable and it is serene. Beautiful grounds. I loved the jacuzzi and the ice bath. The only thing to be aware of is that the road to get here is extremely bumpy. If you’re renting a car, I’d recommend an SUV to manage. This is close to a smaller town of Tulum which is very nice. If I come to Tulum, I will be staying here again!

We had an awesome stay here, and the hotel was so accommodating when our flights were cancelled and we had to book additional nights with them. The property is gorgeous, quiet and relaxing, the rooms are beautifully designed. We did yoga every day and the instructor were all great. The property is close to town so we were able to walk or bike to get lunch or dinner easily. We ate the hotel for a f...
