Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for Longitude 131 is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing it as a "once-in-a-lifetime trip" and an "exceptional stay." Many reviews highlight it as the best and only true luxury hotel near Uluru, often exceeding expectations. While acknowledging its high price point, guests generally consider it a worthwhile indulgence for the unique and intimate experience it provides.

Key Highlights

Guests consistently praise several aspects of Longitude 131:

  • Location: Its unbeatable proximity to Uluru, with uninterrupted views from every tented pavilion, is a major draw. The ability to witness Uluru's captivating sunrise and sunset hues directly from the property is a standout feature.
  • Service & Staff: The impeccable, first-name service and knowledgeable, friendly guides are frequently commended. Staff go above and beyond to ensure a memorable stay, with thoughtful itineraries and attention to detail.
  • Design & Ambiance: The design blends classic touches from bygone eras with indigenous textures, creating a sanctuary of earthy elegance. The central Dune House serves as a convivial hub for lounging and dining.
  • Amenities & Inclusions: The all-inclusive nature of the stay, covering meals, premium beverages (including French Champagne), in-tent minibars, and signature guided excursions, is highly valued. Complimentary airport transfers and a refreshing outdoor swimming pool are also noted.

Room Quality

The 16 elevated tented pavilions are described as luxurious, self-contained suites, elevating "glamping" to a sophisticated level. Each pavilion features a comfortable king-size "Baillie Bed" and floor-to-ceiling windows offering unparalleled views of Uluru. Rooms are equipped with modern conveniences such as air conditioning, Bose speakers, espresso machines, iPads loaded with information, and complimentary local snacks and beverages. Ensuite bathrooms feature tiled floors, rain showers, spa toiletries, and flushing toilets. An expansive outdoor terrace with a double daybed and fireplace allows for soaking in the views or even sleeping under the stars in a luxury swag. The exclusive Dune Pavilion offers views of both Uluru and Kata Tjuta, along with a private plunge pool.

Dining Experience

Dining at Longitude 131 is a highlight, with a five-star culinary team creating innovative, contemporary Australian cuisine. Meals are all-inclusive and incorporate fresh ingredients sourced from across Australia, including native berries and herbs. Guests praise the quality of breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with options served in the Dune House or on the terrace with Uluru views. A particularly unforgettable experience is "Table 131," an outdoor dining event under the stars, featuring a decadent four-course dinner with matched Australian wines and a tour of the southern skies. The restaurant is also well-equipped to handle dietary restrictions.

Service & Staff

The service at Longitude 131 is consistently described as "impeccable" and "excellent." The staff is well-trained, attentive, and friendly, ensuring guests feel like royalty. They provide personalized itineraries and make every effort to create a great stay, balancing activities and relaxation. Housekeeping is provided twice daily, including turndown service, with the option to sleep under the stars in a bespoke luxury swag. Complimentary airport transfers are also provided.

Location & Accessibility

Longitude 131 boasts an "unbeatable location" just outside Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, offering the most luxurious lodging with the best views of Uluru. It is located approximately 15 minutes' drive from Ayers Rock Airport (AYQ), with complimentary return transfers provided. The resort is close to Yulara township, which serves as a hub for accommodation, shops, galleries, and essential services for visitors to the National Park. Signature experiences, included in the tariff, involve guided adventures to Uluru and Kata Tjuta, such as sunrise tours, sunset viewing with canapés, the Mala Walk, Kantju Gorge, and the Mutitjulu waterhole. Guests appreciate the small, private group tours in luxury vehicles. Helicopter flights and camel tours are available at an additional cost.

Value & Pricing

Longitude 131 is a premium luxury experience, and its pricing reflects this. Rates for a Luxury Tent can range from AUD $4,050 to $4,500 per night for two guests, with the Dune Pavilion priced higher at around AUD $8,100 to $9,000 per night for two guests (minimum 2 or 3-night stay). While acknowledged as "exuberantly overpriced" by some, many guests feel it's worth the cost for the unique, all-inclusive luxury and unforgettable experiences. The all-inclusive nature, covering all meals, premium drinks, in-suite bar, signature guided experiences, and airport transfers, contributes significantly to the perceived value.

Common Complaints

Despite the overwhelmingly positive feedback, a few minor recurring issues or criticisms have been noted:

  • Flies: Black flies can be a significant annoyance, especially during warmer months, although the hotel provides insect nets.
  • Pool Temperature: The main pool is unheated and can be chilly, making it less inviting during cooler periods.
  • Group Excursions: While excursions are included, they are typically in groups. Some guests feel that for the price, complimentary private tours should be standard, or that the included excursions don't always cover the most scenic options without extra cost.
  • Dune House Interior Design: One review from 2014 mentioned the interior design of the Dune House feeling "soulless and empty," akin to a cafeteria. However, more recent reviews focus on its spectacular views and convivial atmosphere, suggesting improvements or a difference in perception.

Stunning. This will live in my memory for a long long time. As well as the extraordinary setting, the food, service and accommodation were world class. I was a bit nervous about staying in a kind of tent in the desert but it was amazing. So comfortable, and every detail had been thought of. Loved it.

If you want to visit Uluru in a luxurious way this is the place of choice! Very nice tent accommodation with unique views, excellent food and service. The guided tours have been very informative. We have been a bit unlucky with the windy weather and therefore unable to experience the dinner under the stars. Spending leisure time outside is a bit of an issue due to the flies. Other than that a wond...

If you think that a tent in a desert is leaving comfort behind you, then you haven't been here before. About the staff: only a personal 24/7 butler can outperform them. From the moment you arrive they know your name and they only need half a day to adopt to your wishes. Tip: experience their guides to discover Uluru but also take the time to see the sunset at their dune top.
