Expert Review: Lindner Hotel & Spa Binshof

A Comprehensive Review of Lindner Hotel & Spa Binshof, Speyer (Formerly Michelin Key Selected Property)

The Lindner Hotel & Spa Binshof, located in the serene natural surroundings near Speyer, Germany, was renowned for its extensive spa facilities and tranquil atmosphere. While the Lindner Hotel Group officially withdrew from this location on December 22, 2023, the property itself, under its previous operation as Lindner Hotel & Spa Binshof, was recognized by the Michelin Guide, highlighting its quality and appeal as a destination for travelers. This review reflects guest experiences and the hotel's offerings during its operation under the Lindner brand.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general sentiment among guests for the Lindner Hotel & Spa Binshof was largely positive, often praising its cleanliness, beautiful natural surroundings, and excellent breakfast. Many visitors considered it a comfortable and appealing wellness hotel. However, some recurring criticisms centered on service quality, the perceived value for money, and additional costs such as parking fees.

2. Key Highlights

The undisputed highlight of the Lindner Hotel & Spa Binshof was its impressive 5,200 square meter spa area. This extensive wellness facility boasted a hammam, rasul, multiple pools (including indoor and outdoor, some with saltwater), a whirlpool, six saunas, a steam bath, and various relaxation zones. Guests appreciated the Mediterranean flair and stylish design of the spa, which offered a wide array of wellness traditions. The hotel's location amidst beautiful lakes, ideal for bathing and diving, was also a significant draw.

3. Room Quality

The hotel offered 132 individually designed rooms and suites, some featuring unique elements like open baths or duplex layouts. Rooms were described as comfortable, with granite floors, antique furniture, and exclusive bathrooms, aiming for a cozy, romantic, modern, or luxurious ambiance. Standard rooms were around 15 sqm, while suites could be as large as 55 sqm. While generally clean, some guest feedback from 2017 noted that certain rooms were "a bit dated" or not entirely meeting 4-star expectations, though the hotel indicated plans for modernization. Free Wi-Fi and free phone calls were also provided in the rooms.

4. Dining Experience

The breakfast buffet at Lindner Hotel & Spa Binshof received consistent high praise from guests, often described as "wonderful," "excellent," "varied," "tasty," and "rich." It featured a well-stocked and fresh selection, including healthy options, served in a spacious and pleasant dining area with natural light. The main restaurant, Salierhof, offered international and Mediterranean cuisine with a focus on seasonal ingredients. Additionally, there was a Spanish restaurant, Noche Mediterranea, and a bistro located within the wellness area for lighter snacks. While breakfast was highly rated, some guests had mixed experiences with dinner, and occasional feedback mentioned warm dishes being served lukewarm or a lack of variety over longer stays.

5. Service & Staff

Guest feedback on service and staff was somewhat mixed. Many guests highlighted the friendly and attentive nature of the personnel, particularly praising the staff at breakfast. However, some visitors reported issues with overall service quality and a lack of clear communication regarding restaurant services. There were also instances of perceived staff shortages, leading to guests having to carry their own luggage or a decline in outdoor area cleanliness.

6. Location & Accessibility

The hotel boasted a peaceful location in a natural countryside setting, surrounded by beautiful lakes such as Biersiedersee, Speyerlachsee, Sonnensee, and Hundestrand, making it ideal for nature lovers and those seeking relaxation. Speyer's city center, with its famous cathedral and technical museum, was approximately a 10-minute drive away. Mannheim City Airport was also accessible within a 27-minute drive. The hotel provided both parking lots and a garage, though parking incurred an additional fee.

7. Value & Pricing

While specific price ranges vary depending on booking dates and room availability, some guests felt that the hotel was expensive in relation to the overall experience and amenities. The additional cost for parking was a specific point of criticism for some, affecting the perceived value.

8. Common Complaints

Recurring issues mentioned by guests included criticisms regarding service quality, perceived limited amenities (despite the extensive spa, specific details like readily available water/tea in saunas were sometimes noted as missing), and the cost of parking. There were also comments about certain rooms and outdoor areas appearing dated or not being as well-maintained as expected for a 4-star property. Communication regarding restaurant services was also cited as an area for improvement.

Note on Michelin Key Selection: The Michelin Keys were first awarded in October 2024. The Lindner Hotel Group withdrew from the Speyer location in December 2023. While the property, as "Lindner Hotel & Spa Binshof," was recognized by the Michelin Guide, it is important to clarify that any current Michelin Key selection would apply to the property under its present management and branding, not directly to the Lindner Hotel & Spa Binshof under the former Lindner Group operation.

We really enjoyed our stay. The staff was wonderful, especially Celine at the concierge desk. She was extremely helpful, friendly, spoke multiple languages, and shared a few laughs with us. Thank you!! We stayed in, and highly recommend, the 2 story loft suite. The room and facilities were awesome, again, just what we needed for maximum relaxation. We rented E-bikes, walked the lakes, and had a de...

We came for a 3 day break to Linders Hotel and Spa. The hotel is in a great location for walking around lakes. We walked about 6km everyday around very accessible paths. We booked a massage and really felt invigorated but relaxed after the back massage. We totally recommend the tapas choice for a main meal at the hotel. The hotel is in a peaceful part of countryside close to Speyer city. Staff are...

The spa was luxurious and clean and the atmosphere was very nice. They had a great choice of saunas and lots of rooms outside to sit and enjoy the sun on sunbeds. The hotel had spacious rooms with soft beds and airconditioning. Breakfast was very extensive (hmm, with kaisersmarrn!) but the diner menu was okay and pricey, but that is expected of a spa.

Overall, our stay was ok and the staff was friendly and committed. However, a series of small things went wrong, which was rather annyoing. The hot tub was too cold and people actually left because they were freezing. When we arrived, we were first given a room in which the previous guests had smoked. Upon request, we were given a new room. Finally, the parking gate was not working and it took us ...

I didn't stay over night, but had booked a day at the spa. Tbh, I'm not even sure where to start. I think this place must be close to bankruptcy given the state of it and the staff's constant fishing for tips, as I assume they're on minimum wage. Actually, I don't want to knock the staff because they were really friendly and by far the best thing about the place. Getting here is only possible by ...
