Expert Review: Le Méridien Stuttgart

Le Méridien Stuttgart, a Michelin Key Selected property, generally receives high praise for its excellent service, prime location, and extensive wellness facilities. It is often regarded as a top choice for both business and leisure travelers seeking a luxurious stay in the city.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The overall sentiment for Le Méridien Stuttgart is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently rating it as "excellent" or "exceptional". Review scores often hover around 8.4 to 8.8 out of 10, reflecting satisfaction with comfort, facilities, and staff. Many guests describe the hotel as beautiful, clean, comfortable, and luxurious.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently highlight several aspects of Le Méridien Stuttgart. The exceptional service and friendly staff are frequently lauded. The hotel's comprehensive spa and wellness area, known as Le SPA, featuring an indoor pool, saunas, steam bath, and a 24-hour gym, is a significant draw. Its central location, directly opposite the Schlossgarten Park and within easy reach of major attractions and transport links, is another key highlight. The comfortable beds also receive special mentions for ensuring a good night's sleep.

3. Room Quality

The rooms at Le Méridien Stuttgart are generally described as spacious, clean, and well-maintained. They feature classical-style interiors with large windows, elegant furniture, and soft materials designed for comfort. Recently renovated "Chic Deluxe" rooms are available and appreciated. Beds are noted as "super comfy" with quality bedding and firm mattresses, ensuring a restful experience. Bathrooms are modern, with some featuring rainforest showers and good water pressure, along with premium toiletries. However, some older or unrenovated rooms have been described as rather dark, with a "used and basic touch" and a lack of decorative details or colors, resembling older hotel styles. While equipped with air conditioning, some guests have noted that the system can only be adjusted in 5°C increments and may not effectively cool the room if the outside temperature is below 17°C, potentially requiring windows to be opened for cooling. Common room amenities include flat-screen TVs, blackout curtains, bathrobes, and free water bottles, though some guests have noted a lack of tea/coffee making facilities and USB outlets.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel offers a delightful culinary experience. The breakfast buffet is frequently described as "amazing" and "wowy" by guests, featuring a wide variety of fresh fruits, yogurt, cold cuts, cheese, bread, croissants, and a hot dish station for freshly prepared egg dishes. The staff in the breakfast area are praised for being friendly and attentive. The hotel's restaurant, Kleinschmeckerei, and Bar Lillet provide options for dinner and drinks, offering a selection of regional and international specialties, creative cocktails, and local craft beers. A notable highlight is the exclusive Sunday brunch, which includes an extensive buffet with live cooking stations and a selection of beverages for €79 per person.

5. Service & Staff

The service and staff at Le Méridien Stuttgart receive consistently high praise. Guests frequently describe the staff as exceptional, attentive, friendly, helpful, and professional. Positive feedback highlights smooth check-in and check-out processes, with agents engaging in friendly small talk and ensuring guest satisfaction. The concierge service is also noted for providing competent and helpful recommendations.

6. Location & Accessibility

Le Méridien Stuttgart boasts an excellent and convenient central location in the Stuttgart-Mitte district. It is situated directly opposite the beautiful Schlossgarten Park, offering opportunities for strolls or jogs. The hotel is approximately a 5-10 minute walk from Stuttgart's main train station (Hauptbahnhof). Major attractions such as the Königstraße shopping street, Staatsgalerie (which guests receive free access to with their room key), the State Opera, and both the New and Old Castles are within a 10-15 minute walking distance. Public transportation is easily accessible, with a "metro" station located directly in front of the hotel and the Staatsgalerie U-Bahn and Neckartor U-Bahn stations within a 5-minute walk. The Porsche Museum and Mercedes-Benz Museum are also easily reachable by public transport.

7. Value & Pricing

Le Méridien Stuttgart is considered to offer excellent value for money, despite its 5-star rating. While the average room rate is around $218, compared to Stuttgart's city average of $140, guests feel the high-quality amenities and services justify the cost. Prices for a one-night stay for two adults can start from approximately $159.8, depending on the booking date.

8. Common Complaints

While largely positive, some recurring criticisms include:

  • Room Design & Datedness: Some guests found the interior of non-renovated rooms to be dark, lacking in detail, and feeling somewhat dated or too business-oriented rather than cozy.
  • Noise from Construction/Traffic: The hotel's proximity to a busy road and the "Stuttgart21" train station construction site can lead to noise, especially if windows are open to cool the room due to limited air conditioning control.
  • Air Conditioning Issues: The air conditioning system's inability to actively cool rooms below 17°C (62.5°F) and 5°C adjustment increments can be an inconvenience, particularly for guests who prefer cooler room temperatures.
  • Lack of In-Room Amenities: Some guests noted the absence of tea and coffee making facilities and USB charging outlets in their rooms.
  • Spa/Pool Restrictions: There have been complaints regarding restricted pool hours for children (until 1 PM) and instances of staff being less than child-friendly in the spa area.
  • Minibar: While some mention free water bottles, the minibar is generally not complimentary, which some guests might expect in a 5-star property.
  • Check-out Queues: Occasional long queues at check-out have been reported, particularly during busy periods.

Thank you for an incredible stay! We stayed here for a big anniversary recently and the staff went out of their way to make everything incredible. Our room was upgraded to our surprise. The hotel ambiance is delightful and location couldn’t be better. The hotel is on a busy street so with the windows open it can be noisy. However, when they were closed the noise was well controlled.

We had a great experience at Le Meridien. Ten minute walk for the Stuttgart central station and about a 20-25 min walk to downtown and shopping area. Very convenient. Service was also excellent. I needed some first aid equipment and they went above and beyond to bring it to us. Breakfast is an elaborate buffet with both European and North American options. The bar was also very accommodating to u...

Good location right next to lovely park na train station, to the inner city is 1.5km. Nice interiors and comfortable rooms, good quality of sleep. Breakfast tasty and rich. More or less reasonable price/value. What shocked me, was mess on tables through our dinner and a waiter bringing my burger with a totally burned and smelly bun and wishing me enjoying my meal, like seriously? Also during break...

Good hotel close to all. Ordered an egg for breakfast and asked for halaal to be prepared separately and the chef was really rude. Asked me why I want halaal in a rude way and started explaining to me something about 100 years ago and asked me is it because I don’t want pig. Went to the back and started making fun of the fact that I asked for Halaal with his fellow mates. He was really racist and ...
