La Cheneaudière Hôtel & Spa, a prestigious Relais & Châteaux property nestled in the tranquil village of Colroy-la-Roche, France, offers an exceptional retreat recognized with Two Michelin Keys in 2025 for an unforgettable stay. This family-owned five-star hotel, located amidst the picturesque Vosges mountains, combines luxurious amenities with a genuine sense of Alsatian hospitality and natural beauty.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for La Cheneaudière Hôtel & Spa is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing their experiences as "exceptional" and "wonderful". The hotel boasts impressive ratings, including a 9.4 for attentive staff and a 9.6 for both cleanliness and comfort from various guest reviews. Its recognition with two Michelin Keys underscores its status as an establishment offering an outstanding experience beyond mere accommodation.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently laud several aspects of La Cheneaudière. The expansive 2500 m² "Nature-Spa" is a major draw, featuring four swimming pools, five saunas, a large hammam-tepidarium, the largest flotarium in Europe, Nordic baths, and sensation showers, all designed to promote well-being in a natural setting. The hotel's beautiful setting and sophisticated interior design, blending rustic charm with modern elegance, also receive high praise. Furthermore, the gastronomic restaurant, "Le Feuillage," holding one Michelin star (2025 Guide), is a significant highlight for gourmands. The hotel's ability to maintain its independent character despite growing into a five-star property, alongside its commitment to service, location, and comprehensive amenities, are all celebrated.

3. Room Quality

La Cheneaudière offers 45 elegantly appointed rooms, suites, and villas, designed to provide a blend of modern comforts and traditional charm. Rooms are often described as "cozy" with a design aesthetic inspired by the surrounding countryside, incorporating rich shades of blue, green, and midnight black reminiscent of the nearby forests and mountains. Examples of room types include the Double Room "Les Fôrets" (280 sq ft with a queen bed and mountain view) and the more spacious "Les Terrasses" (355 sq ft with a king bed and garden/mountain view). Junior Suites and Suites (around 484 sq ft) offer king beds, often with balconies and garden or mountain views, and some even include a hot tub. Standard amenities generally include air conditioning, private bathrooms, and free WiFi.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel features two distinct dining experiences overseen by Chef Jean-Paul Acker, who prioritizes local Alsatian products.

  • Le Feuillage: This gastronomic restaurant holds one Michelin star (2025 Guide) and is also recognized with 14/20 and two Toques by the Gault & Millau 2024 guide. It offers refined cuisine with subtle and creative flavors in an elegant and recently updated setting.
  • Le Chêne: Guests can enjoy classic, comforting, and gourmet regional cuisine in a chic and friendly atmosphere. Breakfast consistently receives high praise, often described as "outstanding" and "rich," featuring quality local products. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available to cater to various dietary needs. Additionally, a "Balance Buffet" is available for guests utilizing the spa. For evening relaxation, the cosy bar "Le Calixte" provides a selection of rare alcohols, craft juices, local beers, and cocktails.

5. Service & Staff

The service and staff at La Cheneaudière are highly commended, receiving an impressive 9.4 rating for attentiveness. Guests frequently highlight the exceptional service, warm hospitality, and impeccable attention to detail provided by the dedicated team, who are often described as "awesome," "very friendly," and "professional." 6. Location & Accessibility

La Cheneaudière Hôtel & Spa is situated in Colroy-la-Roche, a peaceful village in the heart of the Bruche Valley, at an altitude of 500 meters, shaded by the Vosges mountains. Its location between Strasbourg and Colmar makes it an ideal spot for those seeking fresh air and relaxation in unspoiled nature. The hotel serves as an excellent starting point for various outdoor activities, including walking and e-bike tours, with several routes designed by the local Tourist Office. While offering a tranquil escape, it also provides convenient access to the nearby Alsace Wine Route. Ample parking, including electric and hybrid vehicle charging stations, is available on-site.

7. Value & Pricing

While the hotel is considered a luxurious experience, it generally receives a good rating for value for money (8.1 from one review platform). The Michelin 2 Keys distinction signifies an exceptional level of quality and experience, which is reflected in its pricing. The hotel offers options for guests to extend their spa access with early arrival (€55 per person) or late departure (€65 per person). It is important to note that extra beds for children and cribs incur additional nightly charges (€70 and €50, respectively). Special offers and packages are also available, providing opportunities for guests to experience this high-end property.

8. Common Complaints

Despite the overwhelmingly positive feedback, some guests have offered mixed feedback regarding the spa and restaurant experiences. Minor issues reported include occasional language barriers with some staff at the reception desk and breakfast restaurant, where English proficiency might be limited. There have also been instances where reservations for activities like wine tasting or dinner were not correctly recorded, though these were usually rectified by the staff. One specific concern mentioned was not being allowed to use the spa facilities until the room was ready, which caused some frustration for an arriving guest. Additionally, the hotel's child policy may involve extra charges for children's accommodation.

Second time I came here, I use this hotel, when I drive from Antwerp to the Swiss Alps. It's somewhat in the middle, and I don't like driving for too many hours. So this hotel is a perfect stop in between. Rooms: very nice, spacious. Breakfast: very good Spa: nice, but very strange that it is a dressed wellness... We are in Europe, and we normally don't wear clothes in a sauna... So that is really...

A magical family owned wellness resort with hospitality in its DNA, located in beautiful Alsace region, deep in the forest. From the moment we stepped into the resort, we were welcomed by the lovely Flora, we were ushered into the beautiful Aubépine suite, spacious, traditional but with absolutely gorgeous modern features, including a porcellano spa bathroom. Breakfasts buffet and afternoon adult ...

A glas of a no brand champagne for 30€, cocktails from 18-23€, the food is mediocre and at diner the diced potatoes tastes like cheese. Guests walk around with bathrobes, during breakfast and especially during lunch. Staff just asked me for my room number, because he confused another table reg. a bill (I didn’...

I chose the hotel to take a break with my girlfriend. To summarize: We wouldn't come back. Why is that? The hotel itself is in a very nice location and the rooms themselves are really nicely furnished. Most of the hotel staff were also extremely friendly and courteous. However, in view of the high costs (just under €2,000 in total for 3 nights), the criticism has to be harsh. This applies in par...

A true disappointment by the customer service and clearly overpriced. Food at the Table des Chefs was creative and very enjoyable. The spa, linked to the lunch/snack service need major improvements. Lots of potential at La Chenaudiere but creativity needs to catch on to 2024…living way too much on past success.
