Expert Review: La Bastide du Mourre
La Bastide du Mourre, nestled in the picturesque Luberon countryside near Avignon, France, is a Michelin Key Selected property that consistently earns high praise from guests. It offers a luxurious yet understated experience, blending rustic 17th-century Provençal charm with stylish modern amenities.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus for La Bastide du Mourre is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing it as "magical," "breathtaking," "idyllic," and a "paradise." Many reviews convey a feeling of deep relaxation and a desire to return. While the Michelin Guide itself awaits a sufficient number of verified guest reviews to calculate a quality score, existing feedback from other platforms highlights exceptional satisfaction.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently laud several aspects of La Bastide du Mourre. Its beautifully preserved 17th-century farmhouse and cottages, updated with stylish modern interventions, create an atmosphere of "quintessential French charm" that remains "delightfully low-key" and connected to its agricultural heritage. The property offers a small, stylish spa featuring local botanical products, and a range of wellness activities including daily yoga, HIIT, and Pilates classes, along with guided hikes into the Luberon Regional Natural Park. Other beloved amenities include a sizable heated swimming pool, a tennis court, a sauna, a Nordic bath, and a serene, well-maintained garden. The exceptional views over the surrounding vineyards and the Luberon mountains are also a significant highlight.
3. Room Quality
The 17 rooms at La Bastide du Mourre are housed within the country house and cottages, characterized by a "rustic spareness" with white walls, dried flowers, and subtle nods to the building's original features. Guests consistently describe the rooms as "absolutely beautiful, stylish and super clean," with some noting they've "never stayed in a cleaner room." All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, a private bathroom, free toiletries, a coffee machine, minibar, refrigerator, and free WiFi. Room sizes vary, from Double Rooms at 161 sq ft (15 m²) to Grande Deluxe Rooms at 365 sq ft (34 m²).
4. Dining Experience
The "Table d'Hôtes" at La Bastide du Mourre is celebrated for its commitment to "local and seasonal products," including vegetables from its own garden, local herbs, olive oils, farm cheeses, and carefully sourced fish and meats. A unique menu is crafted daily based on fresh arrivals, served in the Bastide's welcoming atmosphere. Breakfast, served from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM in the dining room or on the terrace, is described as "generous," "wonderful," and a perfect balance of "well-being and pleasure," featuring breads, pastries, fruits, juices, and vegan options. However, it's important to note that breakfast is an additional cost of €30 per adult and €15 per child.
5. Service & Staff
The service and staff at La Bastide du Mourre receive universal acclaim. Guests frequently use terms like "delightful, helpful accommodating," "exceptional," "attentive," and "super friendly." Special appreciation is often expressed for individuals who go "above and beyond."
6. Location & Accessibility
La Bastide du Mourre is ideally situated at 251 chemin du Moure, Oppède, France, in the heart of the Luberon countryside. It offers a serene "hamlet-style stay on a hillside in a vine-striated Provençal vale," providing a perfect base for exploring the charming Oppède commune and the wider Luberon massif. The hotel is approximately a 30-minute drive from Avignon-Provence Airport and about an hour from Marseille Provence Airport, with transfer services available. The closest train station, Cavaillon, is a 20-minute drive away. Free on-site private parking is available for guests.
7. Value & Pricing

While specific room rates vary by season and demand, a representative price noted is from $293.88 per night (converted from €250.12). Direct bookings through the Michelin Guide often guarantee the best prices. Special packages like "Eat & Sleep" are offered, combining a night's stay with breakfast and dinner, starting from €330 for two people. While breakfast is an additional cost, amenities such as yoga sessions and guided hikes are complimentary.
8. Common Complaints
One notable point for consideration is that the "vintage building and rugged farm outlay" of La Bastide du Mourre might make it "unsuitable for guests with mobility issues." Beyond this, there are no recurring common complaints, with reviews overwhelmingly positive regarding all other aspects of the stay.

Beautiful location and wonderful effort by the staff, but this is not a 5 star hotel and you can tell it was designed / build to specifically cater to an English speaking Instagram influencing community while being inspired by the Caudalie hotels. I frankly found it a overpriced for what it was and I paid approx USD $300 a night for a Monday / Tuesday. Dining: limited selection in the area for di...

A great venue if u want peace and quiet. Lunch with a bottle of Rose and fresh produce from a nearby market, what could be better. The pool is divine as are the grounds. A truest magical place with the Luberon mountains a stones through away.
