Expert Review: Kosta Boda Art Hotel
Kosta Boda Art Hotel in Kosta, Sweden, stands as a truly unique and highly-regarded destination, celebrated for its immersive art experience and comprehensive amenities. As a Michelin Key Selected property, it is recognized for its excellence in hospitality, design, service, and connection to its location.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus for Kosta Boda Art Hotel is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing it as a "fabulous property" and a "charming, unusual and interesting" place to stay. It boasts impressive ratings for cleanliness (9.6) and staff performance (9.6), reflecting a commitment to guest satisfaction. The hotel is often lauded as a unique and luxurious experience, making it a favorite among travelers seeking something memorable.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently praise the hotel's central theme: the pervasive and stunning glass art. The entire hotel functions as a living art gallery, showcasing unique glass creations by renowned Kosta Boda designers in every room and public area, including an "underwater" themed Glass Bar with a 3.5-ton cobalt blue glass bar, glass fish, and glittering stalactites. Other key highlights include:
- Design: The innovative and colorful design, with glass art as the unifying link, creates an elegant and inspiring ambiance.
- Amenities: The hotel offers extensive spa and fitness facilities, including five pools (both indoor and outdoor, some heated), a health club with yoga, Pilates, and Zumba classes, a sauna, and a steam room.
- Convenience: Guests appreciate the complimentary breakfast buffet, free WiFi, and free parking. An electric car charging station and a free shopping center shuttle are also available.
- Location: Its proximity to the Kosta Outlet and Kosta Glassworks is a significant draw for many visitors.
3. Room Quality
The 102 individually furnished rooms are described as comfortable, modern, and clean, featuring bright decor and air conditioning. Each room is adorned with unique glass art and thoughtful touches like pillowtop mattresses, bathrobes, slippers, and designer toiletries. Standard amenities include free WiFi, safes, minibars, flat-screen TVs with cable channels, and coffee/tea makers. Daily housekeeping is provided. While the artistic elements are highly appreciated, some guests have noted minor issues such as signs of wear and tear, dated decor in certain areas, stained armchairs, dirty grout in bathrooms, or impractical glass sinks. A few reports also mention issues with air conditioning.
4. Dining Experience
The hotel offers a delightful gastronomic experience through its two main dining venues: Linnea Art Restaurant and the Glass Bar.
- Linnea Art Restaurant: This restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with menus crafted around seasonal local produce, offering both à la carte and fine dining options, as well as a children's menu. The breakfast buffet is frequently praised as "superb" and "excellent." The restaurant's interior, partly designed by Ulrica Hydman Vallien, creates a feast for the senses, harmonized by art glass. There is also Brasserie 1742, offering innovative dishes in a rustic setting, with everything served with glassware from Kosta Glasbruk.
- Glass Bar: This spectacular bar provides a unique "underwater" environment designed by Kjell Engman, where guests can enjoy drinks in Orrefors crystal glasses while sitting on heated glass chairs. It also offers a bar menu. While the food quality is generally very good, particularly dinner, there have been isolated reports of inconsistent service at the main restaurant, and unfortunately, one guest reported food poisoning from breakfast.
5. Service & Staff
The staff at Kosta Boda Art Hotel largely receives high praise for their friendliness, helpfulness, and professionalism. Guests often highlight efficient check-in processes and the staff's accommodating nature. The service in the Glass Bar is also commended for its efficiency and attentiveness. However, some reviews mention instances of staff being perceived as cold, unhelpful, or inattentive, particularly in the main restaurant. A few guests have also noted a perceived lack of basic service etiquette or occasional language barriers.
6. Location & Accessibility
The hotel is situated in the charming town of Kosta, known as the "Kingdom of Crystal" in Småland, Sweden. Its prime location adjacent to the Kosta Glassworks and the Kosta Outlet makes it ideal for those interested in glass art and shopping. The hotel is approximately a 50-minute drive from Växjö. For international travelers, Växjö Småland Airport is about a 45-minute drive away, with connections from Stockholm Arlanda Airport. Beyond the artistic attractions, Kosta is surrounded by natural beauty, including Lake Övre, offering opportunities for strolling, fishing, kayaking, hiking, and biking. A car is recommended for transportation to and from the property.
7. Value & Pricing
Kosta Boda Art Hotel is generally considered to offer exceptional value, especially given its unique artistic concept and range of luxury facilities. While the average room price in Kosta has been noted around $148, Kosta Boda Art Hotel's average room price around $280 reflects its elevated offering and "affordable luxury." As of late January 2026, a one-night stay for two adults started from approximately $339.93, excluding taxes and fees. The hotel's commitment to value is evidenced by an impressive rating of 8.4 in this category.

Great art glass experience, provided you are forgiving of small details like missing ceramic tiles in the spa. I am usually a nitpicker but the value of access to real art, that you get to live, outweighs the small imperfections. One of a kind experience.

The hotel was nice from what we saw, we did go there only for spa and we were very disappointed, too small spa, full of people, had to wait in line to use any sauna or the chairs. Nowhere to sit around the pool so we had to stand up and drink . Disappointed.

If you like art glass and design, it might be worth to visit this expensive and elevated art gallery, but do not expect the same luxurious treatment as you usually get at four star hotels. Here are some examples: The Glass Bar In the "luxurious" designer glass bar, there are open electrical cables with duct tape going over the floor to the tables. (See the attached picture). Also visible radiato...

Not worth the money. We are a family of 6, booked a night here for 7000SEK. During the booking process you’re supposed to choose when you want to visit the SPA. I booked between 20-22. When we arrived no one told us that they are now closing the SPA at 21. So by the time we managed to put the kids to sleep, the SPA was closed. We got a “compensation” of less than 800SEK for a completely ruined exp...

It's a very nice hotel, with very nice art pieces spread around the facilities. The spa was great, super relaxing. The food was amazing as well as the service. Close to the hotel was quite a few outlets with very good prices. You get a lot for the money here.

A beautiful hotel with a truly epic spa with a heated outdoor pool where you can swim looking up at the stars. Food was top notch and the staff kind and accommodating. An excellent location for a romantic getaway or a place to stay the night if you're passing through. In addition, if you're interested in the rest Kosta has to offer - shopping, glas making, etc. - it's available just around the c...
