Its sophisticated and charming ambiance, housed within a historic building with exposed architectural details and dark elegant decor, is also frequently mentioned. The friendly and attentive staff are a significant highlight, consistently receiving high praise. The hotel also boasts a cozy bar and excellent dining facilities. Amenities such as free Wi-Fi and air conditioning are available in all rooms.

3. Room Quality

Hotel du Vin & Bistro Cambridge offers 41 uniquely designed rooms and suites, ranging from cozy Standard Rooms to spacious Deluxe Suites. The rooms are described as comfortable, stylish, and meticulously tailored for comfort. They feature custom-made beds with Egyptian cotton linens, hand-sprung mattresses, and well-appointed bathrooms with monsoon showers or roll-top baths and large fluffy towels. While generally well-appointed with amenities like air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and tea/coffee making facilities including Nespresso machines, some guests have noted that rooms can be modest-sized and, in some instances, a "little tired around the edges". Pillows have also been mentioned as sometimes being too thin. Views can vary, with some rooms overlooking a science lab, making an upgrade worthwhile for a better view.

4. Dining Experience

The on-site Bistro du Vin is a central feature of the hotel, influenced by both French and British classics. The restaurant offers a delightful menu showcasing fresh, seasonal ingredients prepared by skilled chefs. Guests have praised the "super restaurant" and "excellent breakfast options". The breakfast is highly recommended for its exceptional quality. The bistro provides a warm, elegant, and informal setting, perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, with natural daylight, dark-stained floorboards, restored fireplaces, and comfortable chairs. January is typically the cheapest month to stay, with a 26% drop in price, while July is the most expensive, with a 60% rise.

8. Common Complaints

While overall sentiment is positive, some minor recurring issues include rooms being "a little tired around the edges" and pillows being too thin. Some guests have also experienced slow service or miscommunication between staff, although staff generally go out of their way to resolve issues. Parking is limited, and guests need to rely on nearby public car parks which can be expensive.

My husband and I decided to splurge a little on our accommodation on our trip to Cambridge. We chose Hotel du vin, not only because of its reputation, but it had great ratings on booking, and the value was quite good. The room was beautifully furnished, a bed I wanted to bring home with me, L'occitane toiletries.... Then the problems started. We asked at check-in, if it was possible to get a "brea...

The room size was very good and the cleanliness was good. However, the room did not have proper temperature control. No matter how much I tried to increase the temperature, it didn’t work, and I had to contact the reception every time to adjust it, which was very inconvenient. On the positive side, the staff were generally kind and helpful, especially Mahmoud, who was very supportive, cooperative,...

Went for dinner at browns and finished at hotel de vin for drinks. So glad we did!! From walking in, Mohamed the barman was absolutely fantastic! He helped us choose the best drinks and seated us in a private booth. He kept the drinks flowing and was the perfect host! Will definitely be back! Thank you Mohamed!

I like this hotel. It has a good location and the staff are accomodating. A few things to note, the building itself is a bit of a rabbit warren. It feels cramped and old? We found it very difficult navigating around with our pram and bags. There is a small lift, but to some of the rooms we were left to struggle up some stairs without help. They knew we had a baby; and a pram as they set up a cot ...

We haven't visited the cellar bar for a number of years, having had our second date here in 2009 (it must have just opened!). We had some lovely drinks and nibbles. The cellar itself is lovely, with lots of small rooms and a cosy main area. The wine was excellent. The service (from a chap called Abraham), was friendly, attentive and charming. A special place for us, that remains special.

We’d heard good things about this place so we were excited. However the experience blew us away, especially the bar ! Poppy, the lady behind the bar, was extremely friendly and hospitable. The cherry on top was when she recommended me, a Wine connoisseur, a bottle of the Altitudes Red, which now happens to be a personal favourite of mine. 10/10. Not only this but the layout was very cool and old f...
