Expert Review: Hotel d'Inghilterra - Starhotels Collezione

Hotel d'Inghilterra - Starhotels Collezione, Rome, offers a blend of historical elegance and modern luxury, highly praised for its prime location and exceptional service. Recently undergoing significant renovations, this Michelin Key Selected property continues to attract discerning travelers.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for Hotel d'Inghilterra is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests describing their stays as "exceptional" and exceeding expectations. Review scores frequently reach 9.0 and 10 out of 10, highlighting a delightful and memorable experience for most visitors. While some older reviews noted areas for improvement, particularly regarding room maintenance, the sentiment has largely shifted to outstanding following recent renovations.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently laud the hotel's superb location in the heart of Rome's fashion district, steps from the Spanish Steps. The attentive and friendly staff are another major highlight, frequently mentioned for their professionalism and willingness to assist. The elegant design of the hotel, combining old-world grandeur with modern touches, also stands out. Amenities like the Terrazza Romana Rooftop Cocktail Bar with its stunning city views and the Café Romano are highly appreciated.

3. Room Quality

Following a year-long renovation and restoration, completed in 2024, the rooms at Hotel d'Inghilterra are described as gorgeous, clean, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. They feature a classic Italian flair with a touch of British elegance, adorned with precious textiles, antique furnishings, Murano glass chandeliers, and decorative mosaics. Many rooms and suites offer modern amenities such as air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and safes. Some luxury options, like the Penthouse suite, boast private terraces with city views, and even a fireplace and study. Marble bathrooms are a common feature, some including a TV in the mirror.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel's dining options, particularly Café Romano Restaurant & Lounge Bar, receive positive feedback for their quality and variety. Breakfast is often described as "excellent" with a good selection of fresh pastries, fruits, and quality coffee, and can be enjoyed indoors or on a terrace. The Bond Bar is a "must-visit" for cocktails and has been praised for its glamorous atmosphere. Café Romano also offers Mediterranean fare for lunch and dinner.

5. Service & Staff

The service and staff at Hotel d'Inghilterra consistently receive exceptional praise. Guests highlight their friendliness, politeness, and readiness to help, often going out of their way to ensure a special stay. The concierge team, in particular, is noted as very helpful. This high level of hospitality contributes significantly to the overall positive guest experience.

6. Location & Accessibility

The hotel boasts an "excellent" and "fantastic" central location, situated on a quiet pedestrian-only street near the Spanish Steps. It's just a few steps from the high-end shopping street of Via dei Condotti, making it ideal for designer shopping. Major attractions like the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, and Piazza Navona are all within walking distance, typically less than a 10-minute stroll. Public transport is easily accessible, with the Spagna metro station nearby. The hotel also offers airport transfer services.

7. Value & Pricing

Hotel d'Inghilterra is a 5-star luxury property, and its pricing reflects this exclusivity and prime location. While specific price ranges vary, a 1-night stay for two adults can start from approximately $464.49, excluding taxes and fees. Some guests have noted it can be "very expensive" or "a bit poor" in quality-price compared to service, particularly for suites at higher price points, but many consider it worth the cost for the experience, especially given its recent renovations and high level of service.

8. Common Complaints

While overall reviews are strong, some recurring issues or criticisms have been noted. Before the recent renovations, some guests mentioned that rooms were "showing signs of wear" with issues like stained carpets, peeling paint, and worn-out furniture. However, the 2024 renovation aimed to address these concerns, outfitting interiors with fresh, opulent details.

Noise can be an issue for street-facing rooms due to late-night revelers and early morning street cleaning. One particularly negative review highlighted significant issues with breakfast service (lack of cutlery, long wait times, perceived discrimination), persistent noise from downstairs commotion and trash collection, and a complex billing discrepancy upon checkout. It's important to note that this specific complaint stands in contrast to the majority of positive feedback regarding service and breakfast.

Just spent three nights. Room beautifully refurbished with a delightful private terrace. The hotel generally has been refurbished to a high standard. Small breakfast areas but very pleasant and first class friendly service where the staff are keen to help. Cooked breakfast is available and a buffet table as well with a decent variety on offer. I first stayed at the hotel in the late fall of 2021. It was enchanting then. When I returned in the winter of 2026, I realized the renovation had only enhanced the pleasure of the place. It's intimate without being small and stifling. Very wisely, the hotel kept the signature and iconic bar in tact. I'm sure the physical space of the restaurant was updated -- along with the salon, common roo...

Beautifully appointed historical hotel in a great location. Staff very kind and helpful. Too few tables for breakfast though for a 5 star hotel. Queues were inevitable. Also closing the terrace at New Year’s Eve was uncomprehensible. We went to eat somewhere else whixh had it open. Shame. All in all very good stay.

The entire staff was exceptional from the bell men, to the concierge, to the front desk, wait staff, and bar men. They made us feel special and well-looked after. We would definitely come back, but we would upgrade the room. The standard rooms are very small and the bathroom very tight. Sitting on the commode was a laugh for us. I completely understand the limitations as it is a beautiful pro...
