Expert Review: Hotel Bella Grande
Hotel Bella Grande in Copenhagen, Denmark, a Michelin Key Selected property, generally garners positive feedback for its distinctive design, prime location, and exceptional service, though some guests have noted areas for improvement.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The Hotel Bella Grande typically receives very good to excellent ratings, with an average around 8.5 out of 10 on various platforms. Guests often describe their stay as enjoyable, highlighting the beautiful interiors and faultless service. However, some reviews indicate a mixed overall experience, citing issues with room size, cleanliness, and service in specific instances.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently praise several aspects of Hotel Bella Grande:
- Service: The staff is frequently lauded for being friendly, helpful, welcoming, and incredibly accommodating, with some guests noting that staff go "way beyond" expectations.
- Location: The hotel's central location is a major draw, described as "amazing," "perfect," and "steps from City Hall Square". It offers excellent accessibility to public transport, including metro and train stations, making it easy to reach attractions and the airport.
- Design: The hotel's "Wes Anderson-style charm" and blend of Scandinavian and Italian grandeur are highly appreciated. Set in a lovingly restored 19th-century building, the interiors feature antique mirrors, moody lighting, deep jewel tones, parquet flooring, and distinctive checkerboard tiles in public spaces, creating a theatrical yet grounded ambiance.
- Amenities: The hotel offers free Wi-Fi, a fitness center, a restaurant, a bar/lounge, and room service. Bicycle rental is available, and suites provide additional perks such as in-room breakfast, a pre-dinner drink, and included bike rental.
3. Room Quality
Rooms at Hotel Bella Grande are often described as beautiful, well-appointed, clean, comfortable, and, in some cases, "huge". Features like comfortable beds, heated bathroom floors, and glorious showers are noted. The design elements, including soothing ambient lighting, parquet flooring, gleaming mirrors, and statement furnishings, contribute to an impeccable glamour. However, some guests have mentioned that standard room sizes can be small, and there have been isolated reports of cleanliness issues, broken fixtures (toilet lids, clogged drains), and a lack of in-room amenities like kettles or desks unless specifically requested.
4. Dining Experience
The hotel's dining options generally receive positive remarks:
- Breakfast: The breakfast is frequently highlighted as excellent. For guests staying in suites, the option of in-room breakfast is a luxurious touch.
- Restaurant: The on-site restaurant, Donna, is popular and well-regarded for its delicious meals.
- Sustainability: The hotel emphasizes sustainable dining with locally sourced ingredients.
- Criticisms: One guest noted a lack of vegetables and variety in the breakfast offerings during a four-day stay.
5. Service & Staff
The service and staff are a consistent strong point for Hotel Bella Grande. Guests frequently use words like "faultless," "friendly," "helpful," "welcoming," and "incredibly friendly" to describe their interactions. Staff members have been observed to go "way beyond" for guests, providing assistance like umbrellas on a rainy day. However, some negative feedback includes a lack of immediate compensation or apology for significant room issues, no staff assistance for moving luggage after a room change, and an unusual system requiring guests to use a QR code and Google form to request housekeeping, as well as the absence of in-room phones to contact reception.
6. Location & Accessibility
Hotel Bella Grande boasts an exceptional and central location in Copenhagen's Old Town, just steps from City Hall Square. It is situated on a quiet street but remains lively and safe. The hotel is within walking distance of popular attractions such as Tivoli Gardens, the Strøget shopping district, Nyhavn, and Rosenborg Castle. Its proximity to metro and train stations like Rådhuspladsen, Nørreport, and Østerport ensures easy access to various parts of the city and the airport.
7. Value & Pricing
Hotel Bella Grande is generally considered to offer good value, especially given its prime location and design. Room rates typically range from $105 to $813 per night. Many guests feel it's an "absolutely great hotel for the price and location". Booking.com reviews rate its "Value for money" at 8.1 out of 10. Despite this, some guests who experienced significant issues questioned the value for a hotel in its price range.
8. Common Complaints
While overall sentiment is positive, recurring issues and criticisms include:
- Inconsistent Housekeeping: Some guests reported issues with room cleanliness and the inconvenience of having to request housekeeping daily via a QR code and Google form, coupled with a lack of in-room phones for reception contact.
- Room Size: Standard rooms can sometimes be perceived as small.
- Maintenance Issues: Isolated but notable complaints about broken toilet lids, clogged shower drains, and clogged sinks have been reported, with some guests feeling the resolution and compensation were inadequate.
- Breakfast Variety: A lack of change in breakfast items and a limited selection of vegetables were mentioned by one guest.
- Hotel Age: Some interiors show signs of being an old hotel that has undergone a facelift.

Here’s a fair review, The hotel is new, and aesthetically pleasing. Good location, and good restaurants inside. However, 0 amenities are in the rooms, no coffee, no tea, no water, not even slippers, nothing. It feels like an IBIS. Housekeeping barely cleans your room, dirt and used paper cups stayed from the day i checked in until check out. At the same price i could’ve stayed at Marriott or NH c...

Staying at Bella Grande, Denmark felt less like staying at a hotel and more like staying at a relative’s home. From the moment we arrived, everything felt incredibly family-oriented, warm, and homey. The atmosphere is truly special, every corner looks like it’s straight out of a Wes Anderson movie, full of charm, character, and thoughtful details. What truly made our stay unforgettable was the s...

This place would be perfect if it wasn’t so noisy. Great facilities (thoughtful touches like lotions, ice bucket etc), wonderful staff, great location and really clean, well decorated rooms. Unfortunately on both nights, what sounded like furniture being moved around next to our room, happened throughout the night until about 1am - meaning two terrible nights of sleep.

We had an unforgettable two-night stay at Hotel Bella Grande, and from start to finish the experience was exceptional. We stayed in the suite with the balcony as I was proposing to my girlfriend, and Edita and her team truly went above and beyond to help make it perfect, they were incredibly helpful, thoughtful, and impeccably organised, ensuring the balcony setup was absolutely beautiful and that...

The hotel was very cute, and cozy. Conveniently located two minutes from the nearest metro station, it’s the perfect spot to stay at in Copenhagen, if you’re planning on exploring the city. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, and the buffet breakfast has amazing eggs, fruits, pastries, and coffee. We had a 10/10 experience here!

Lovely hotel. Great staff. The courtyard restaurant is beautiful. My only complaint would be the lift/elevator. It's mirrored on all four walls and the ceiling and is very very brightly lit! When you're coming down to breakfast after a late night out in Copenhagen, you get to see how dreadful you look from every angle! Put some dimmer bulbs in!
