This establishment is celebrated for its gastronomic prowess and its serene, beautifully designed environment, earning it a selection in the Michelin Key.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The overall sentiment for Hofke van Bazel is overwhelmingly positive, particularly regarding its culinary offerings and enchanting ambiance. Guests frequently describe it as an "absolutely fantastic" destination for fine dining and a perfect experience for an overnight stay. The hotel aspect, "Suite & B by Hofke van Bazel," boasts a "fantastic" guest score of 9.3 based on 41 reviews. While the food and setting consistently receive high praise, some feedback indicates a mixed perception of service consistency and formality.

2. Key Highlights

Guests are consistently captivated by the romantic setting, which is enhanced by beautifully designed interiors and peaceful gardens where appetizers and champagne can be enjoyed. The exceptional culinary creativity of Chef Kris De Roy is a major draw, with an emphasis on seasonal and vegetarian dishes. The blending of nature's tranquility with refined gastronomy is a core highlight, offering a unique and memorable experience. The property is also noted for being pet-friendly and providing free parking and Wi-Fi.

3. Room Quality

Hofke van Bazel offers five luxurious suites spread across two buildings. The suites in the original building lean towards a more traditional aesthetic, while those in the newer Relais de Bazel building present a more modern design. All suites are described as luxurious, with specific mentions of features like private terraces or lovely garden views. The "Le Loft au 5e Ciel" suite is particularly highlighted for its impressive views from a wraparound terrace. The romantic interiors make the luxury suites ideal for private dining.

4. Dining Experience

The dining experience at Hofke van Bazel is highly celebrated. The Michelin-starred restaurant is renowned for its use of fresh, high-quality ingredients, masterful layering of flavors, and visually stunning, colorful presentation of dishes. Chef Kris De Roy's approach is guided by nature and a love of fine produce, with a strong focus on seasonal vegetables and herbs, often sourced from their own garden. Guests can choose from tasting menus, a lunch menu, or à la carte options, with a dedicated vegetarian menu ("Gina's choice") always available. Non-alcoholic pairings are also offered. Breakfast is consistently described as "quite nice and abundant". While most culinary feedback is glowing, one guest noted that a specific vegetarian main dish and dessert were not as impressive as other courses. The aperitif is often served in an impressive wine cellar with a glass ceiling.

5. Service & Staff

The staff at Hofke van Bazel are generally lauded for their professional, warm, and attentive approach, with an ability to accommodate dietary restrictions with ease. Gina Miurin, the co-owner and "Lady of the House," is frequently mentioned for her warm and charming demeanor. However, some guests have noted that the service can occasionally feel "a bit formal or stiff". There are also criticisms concerning service quality dipping when the restaurant is busy. More pointed complaints include perceptions of arrogance from the owner/maître d' (Gina), particularly towards male guests, and instances of being pressured to order additional items or drinks.

6. Location & Accessibility

Hofke van Bazel is situated in the picturesque village of Bazel, a suburb of Kruibeke, about 15 km from Antwerp. The location is praised for its tranquil natural setting, offering fresh air and beautiful water views, and being adjacent to a romantic medieval church square. While it offers a serene escape, it remains accessible, with convenient transportation to Antwerp by taxi. Free parking facilities are available for guests.

7. Value & Pricing

As a Michelin-starred property, Hofke van Bazel operates at a higher price point, consistent with fine dining and luxury accommodations. Guests have reported bills around €600 for two people, including multiple courses and champagne, which some considered "very reasonable for the quality of food and setting". Another review stated that the restaurant's prices are "reasonable compared to the amount and the quality of the food you get". For the hotel suites, one guest specifically highlighted "excellent value for money" for a gourmet getaway.

8. Common Complaints

A notable criticism is the inconsistency of service quality, particularly when the restaurant becomes busy. There are also specific, strong complaints regarding the attitude of the owner/maître d', Gina, with some male guests feeling ignored or experiencing pressure to consume more. A serious past complaint also detailed issues with the restaurant's adherence to COVID-19 safe pass regulations and problems with wine service, including being served the wrong vintage and refusal to decant wine with significant sediment.

Celebrated a birthday at Hofke van Bazel and while the food was exquisite, the service detracted from the experience. To start, I wrote in the reservation that I would be celebrating my birthday, even added for the first time in Belgium, when I made the reservation several months ago. There was no recognition of it whatsoever - not when we were welcomed, not during the meal, not even writing on th...

We chose this beautiful restaurant which located in the nature with fresh air around for a significant celebration, and we had a wonderful evening here. We arrived and returned to the Antwerp city by taxi, I would say convenient transportation. The location is great, we took a walk around the beautiful water before dinner, there was a lot to see around. The interior design here is pretty, perfe...

One time we ended up here by accident and did not realize it was a Michelin rated restaurant. Well, let me tell you, we were in for a nice surprise. So we have gone back since we liked it so much. Fine dining at your best.

Absolutely fantastic atmosphere. We arrived and received first a tour of the restaurant, then were sat in the garden for appetizers and champagne. After we finished, we were led inside by the owner, and were given a choice of table, which I really appreciate. We ordered the vegetarian menu with 6 courses and the wine pairings. The first 3 courses were delicious. The fourth "course" was a tequila...

Great food and wine. Thus far the best food experience we've had in Belgium. The wife was pregnant at the time which was not a problem at all, all dishes were adjusted accordingly. The service is professional but just a tad too stiff for my liking.

Pros: The staff was kind and welcoming. The food was delicious. Prices are reasonable compared to the amount and the quality of the food you get. They had good vegetarian options. Cons: The menu was in dutch; they tried to help us by translating it but to listen a whole menu being translated was a lot distracting and owerwhelming. They are a bit too much attentive about the looks; for exemple whi...
