Expert Review: Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong

The Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong, a distinguished Michelin One-Key property, is widely celebrated as one of Hong Kong's premier luxury hotels, consistently earning high praise for its exceptional service, prime location, and world-class culinary offerings.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing it as a truly memorable and splendid experience. It holds an impressive average rating, such as 9.4 out of 10 based on over 2,800 reviews on Agoda, and a "Guest Feedback Score" of 19 out of 20 on Tablet Hotels. Its Michelin One-Key status denotes "a very special stay" and a "true gem with personality."

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently rave about the hotel's captivating harbor views, especially of Victoria Harbour and Kowloon, which are considered unrivalled in proximity and spectacle. The impeccable and personalized service stands out as a hallmark of the Four Seasons brand. Its extensive array of dining and beverage options, boasting multiple Michelin stars, is another significant draw. The hotel's prime location, directly connected to the IFC mall, offers unparalleled convenience. Amenities like the fantastic outdoor infinity pools, expansive spa (one of Hong Kong's largest), and a well-equipped 24-hour fitness center are also highly appreciated.

3. Room Quality

The rooms at Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong are lauded for being spacious, clean, and modern. A significant refurbishment of all 399 guest rooms and public areas has been undertaken, resulting in a modern aesthetic that elegantly balances Chinese-inspired elements with luxurious touches. Guests enjoy comfortable beds, ample storage, good Wi-Fi, Nespresso coffee makers, and luxurious bath amenities (L'Occitane in rooms, Biologique Recherche in suites). Many rooms and suites offer stunning floor-to-ceiling windows with breathtaking harbor views. While some reviews from before or during the refurbishment noted certain areas like the Executive Club or parts of bathrooms still retained older designs, the updated rooms are consistently praised as beautiful and fitting the Four Seasons brand expectations.

4. Dining Experience

The Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong is a culinary powerhouse, boasting an impressive collection of Michelin stars, reportedly "no fewer than seven Michelin stars" or "a ridiculous eight Michelin stars across three different cuisines" within the hotel.

  • Lung King Heen: The world's first Chinese restaurant to earn three Michelin stars, renowned for its legendary Cantonese cuisine under Chef Chan Yan-tak.
  • Caprice: A lavish three-Michelin-star French restaurant led by Chef Guillaume Galliot, offering a grand dining room with harbor views.
  • Sushi Saito: Known worldwide for exquisite sushi, with fresh seasonal seafood flown in daily from Tokyo's Toyosu Market, holding one or two Michelin stars. Beyond these, the main restaurant off the lobby offers a fusion of Western and Eastern options, with the Hong Kong-style breakfast and Hainanese chicken receiving high acclaim. The Executive Club lounge is considered exceptional, featuring a fulsome breakfast buffet, daily afternoon tea with "world-class" scones, light suppers, and free-flowing premium wine and Champagne. Even poolside dining maintains high-quality standards.

5. Service & Staff

The service and staff at Four Seasons Hong Kong consistently receive glowing reviews. Guests report impeccable, exceptional, attentive, and personalized hospitality from the moment of arrival. The staff's training is evident in every interaction, with examples like proactive pool attendants setting up chairs upon arrival and housekeeping noticing and replenishing personal items like hair gel. The check-in process is described as seamless, and the staff's efforts make the large property feel like a more boutique experience.

6. Location & Accessibility

The hotel's location is a significant advantage. Situated within the International Finance Centre (IFC) mall in Hong Kong's Central district, it offers direct, covered access to luxury shopping, the Central and Star Ferry piers, the Macau ferry terminal, and the Airport Express and Central MTR subway station. This central position makes it ideal for both tourists and business travelers. Key attractions like Lan Kwai Fong and Soho are a short walk or drive away, and the Peak is easily accessible by taxi. The proximity to Victoria Harbour ensures spectacular views that no other property on the island can match.

7. Value & Pricing

As a premier luxury property, the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong comes with a premium price tag. Standard rooms typically retail for around HKD 6,500–7,000 (approximately USD 830–895) per night, or between USD 600-800 on normal travel days, with rates potentially higher during peak seasons. While the cost is high, many guests feel it offers a worthwhile and memorable experience, justifying the splurge. The Executive Club lounge upgrade, despite its cost, is often considered good value due to the extensive and high-quality food and beverage offerings.

8. Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, some minor criticisms have been noted. Some reviews, particularly from 2021-2022, mentioned that certain design elements felt a little dated, specifically in older bathroom designs or the Executive Club lounge, noting that the recent refurbishment was "soft" in some areas rather than a complete overhaul. The high price is a recurring point, though generally acknowledged as expected for such a luxury property. One minor observation was a "no food by the pool" rule, though a restaurant overlooking the pool is readily available.

This Four Seasons property fully meets the brand’s high service standards and clearly stands out in several key operational areas. In particular, welcome process, check-in, check-out, and overall service speed are handled at an exceptionally high level. Requests are processed quickly and efficiently, placing the hotel above average compared to other Four Seasons properties in these specific areas....

While not cheap, this is not only the best hotel on Hong Kong Island but in all the world of 5-star hotels. Other big-named hotels in Hong Kong are actually in Kowloon, across Victoria Harbor from Hong Kong Island and they are not centrally located. The Four Seasons is attached to the IFC Mall which might make your wallet whine. Every top, middle and convenience type store and restaurant you can n...

I just want to shout out Maggie in the spa. I had her twice as my masseuse and she was incredible. I am considering flying across an ocean just to see her! The hotel itself is pretty standard for Four Seasons. Beds are comfortable and rooms are spacious, elevators were fast and water pressure was great. Facilities like the spa, gym, and pool were well maintained and very inviting. Location above ...

Absolutely lovely hotel in the heart of Hong Kong. The rooms are very comfortable from the lighting to the beds and the amazing night views of Victoria harbor. The pool was one of our favorite spots to chill and take in some sun. The service was also impeccable. And finally…the people…from the front desk to the servers to the cleaning staff…all extremely helpful, professional and friendly. This...

I stayed here on my first ever trip abroad, so it's a very memorable experience. The pool, which changes appearance from morning to noon to evening and night, is so beautiful that I spent the whole time in it. I still hope to stay here again. *The photos are from the past.
