Room Quality

The 205 elegantly appointed rooms at Fleur de Chine Hotel are described as lovely, spacious, and comfortable. Each room is designed to provide a serene escape, featuring air conditioning, plush linens, and flat-screen TVs. Many accommodations include beautiful French windows and private balconies, offering captivating lake or mountain views. A notable amenity in many rooms is a natural hot spring bathtub. Guests also appreciate the provision of Italian sparkling and still water from in-room dispensers and glass bottles, promoting sustainable travel. While the intelligent room control system is generally a modern convenience, some guests have noted minor issues with the automated lighting.

Dining Experience

The culinary experience at Fleur de Chine Hotel receives high praise, especially the buffet-style breakfast and dinner. Guests rave about the extensive and varied spreads, describing them as delicious and of "incredible quality" – often considered among the best hotel buffets. The hotel offers six on-site restaurants, including Crimson (buffet), KEN CAN by Ken Chan (managed by a Taipei Michelin 3-star executive chef, specializing in Cantonese cuisine), and Ciao Club (an executive lounge offering a "Champagne brunch" on weekends and a full-day Italian menu). Value & Pricing

Positioned in the luxury category, Fleur de Chine Hotel's average room rates typically range from $451-$500, which is significantly higher than the average hotel room rate in Nantou. Despite the higher price point, many guests consider the hotel to be "worth the cost," attributing the value to the exquisite amenities, stunning views, exceptional service, and comprehensive facilities. Prices tend to be lowest in October and highest in December.

Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, some recurring issues and criticisms include:

  • Language Barrier: Some guests reported difficulties with English communication among certain staff members, particularly in the restaurants.
  • Room Controls: The automated lighting/scene systems in rooms can sometimes be hard to control, making it difficult to turn off specific lights.
  • Dining Variation: Although the buffet is highly praised, some guests were disappointed with the quality of the Italian restaurant, finding it did not match fine dining expectations.
  • Crowds at Buffet: During holidays, the buffet areas can become crowded and feel "cluttered."
  • Room Fixtures: Minor complaints include a lack of sufficient electrical outlets and places to hang bath towels in some rooms.
  • Gym Facilities: The gym is noted as "a bit lacking" with limited equipment.
  • Disposable Amenities Policy: Effective January 1, 2025, the hotel will no longer provide disposable amenities in guest rooms, aligning with government regulations. However, they have already implemented Italian sparkling water dispensers and glass bottles to reduce plastic use.

This was my first time staying at Fleur de Chine Hotel at Sun Moon Lake, and in my opinion, it is the best hotel in the area. The overall environment, facilities, and public spaces are extremely well designed and thoughtfully maintained. What impressed me the most was the swimming pool. The hotel offers a proper 25-meter lap pool, which is rare for a resort hotel, and the changing and shower areas...

We had a great stay at FDC. We enjoyed the upgrade to the VIP lounge which we thought was super worth it. The VIP lounge was super peaceful and the à la carte options were delicious. Leslie Lin was especially knowledgeable and sweet. She accommodated our special requests and put extra effort into explaining the menu to our family in Mandarin and English. Hopefully we will be back another time to e...

The rooms were filthy. Hair was everywhere. This is completely unacceptable and nowhere near 5-star standards. The property markets itself as luxury, but the overall experience barely qualifies as 3-star. Service was disorganized and careless. Reaching room service from the room was unnecessarily difficult. Basic hospitality infrastructure seems broken. A 30 percent surcharge is imposed on food or...

We booked this hotel using hotel.com and as a silver member we did not receive the extra’s mentioned. There was also a mentioning of an outdoor pool but the hotel does not have an outdoor pool, so this is also very misleading. The fine dining restaurant Ken Chan supposedly has 3 Michelin stars but it has none, the food was bad and we left te restaurant very disappointing.
