Expert Review: Eliamos Villas Hotel & Spa

Eliamos Villas Hotel & Spa in Kefalonia, Greece, a distinguished Michelin Key Two-Keys property and a member of Relais & Châteaux, offers a sanctuary of luxury, tranquility, and exceptional hospitality. Opened in 2023, the resort is celebrated for its breathtaking cliffside setting and meticulously designed villas, providing an idyllic escape on the Ionian island.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The overall sentiment for Eliamos Villas Hotel & Spa is overwhelmingly positive, with guests consistently rating it as "Exceptional" and "Magnificent." On platforms like Booking.com, it scores an impressive 9.6 out of 10 based on numerous reviews, with perfect scores for cleanliness, comfort, and staff. Reviewers frequently describe it as a "pretty damn near perfect five-star boutique hotel" offering "pure escapism."

2. Key Highlights

Guests are particularly enchanted by the hotel's stunning panoramic views of the Ionian Sea, coupled with its serene and peaceful atmosphere. The design, which blends into the natural landscape, and the exceptional, warm, and accommodating staff are frequently praised. A significant highlight is that each of the 12 villas features a private saltwater pool or hot tub, enhancing the sense of secluded luxury. The hotel's commitment to wellness, sustainability, and encouraging guests to disconnect is also a notable aspect.

3. Room Quality

The accommodations, comprising one, two, and three-bedroom villas and maisonettes, are described as gorgeous, luxurious, and beautifully styled. Designed by interior architect Maike Gruna, the villas feature a chic, pared-back aesthetic with earthy hues, natural stone, and polished concrete floors, creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. Each villa boasts spacious bedrooms, comfortable indoor and outdoor sitting areas, and a well-maintained private pool. Thoughtful amenities include smart TVs, coffee machines, a pillow menu, and high-quality Greek brand "Zealots of Nature" products in the en-suite bathrooms, which feature showers but no bathtubs. The hotel is also committed to sustainability, using no plastic on-site, offering refillable water bottles, and utilizing solar power.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel's restaurant, Olais, offers a magnificent dining experience with Greek cuisine and modern twists, emphasizing locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast is a highlight, featuring a great selection, daily specials, local specialties, warm dishes, fresh pastries, and options for vegetarians, vegans, and gluten-free diets. Guests particularly rave about the homemade orange pie and walnut cake. Dinner is an elevated yet relaxed affair, with standout dishes like feta cheese with local honey, braised beef cheeks, sea bream fricassee, and shrimp and cuttlefish ink tagliolini. The poolside bar is popular for pre-dinner cocktails. Guests have noted that the food is consistently amazing and delicious from breakfast through dinner.

5. Service & Staff

The service and staff at Eliamos Villas Hotel & Spa receive exceptionally high praise, often cited as what makes the hotel truly special. They are consistently described as welcoming, warm, friendly, accommodating, attentive, and helpful without being intrusive. Reviewers highlight their willingness to go "above and beyond," arranging everything from airport transfers to local excursions with minimal fuss.

6. Location & Accessibility

Eliamos Villas Hotel & Spa is situated on the tranquil southern corner of Kefalonia, perched on a hillside above a beach with stunning Ionian Sea views. It is conveniently located just 15 minutes from Kefalonia Airport and about 20 minutes by car from Argostoli, the island's capital, which offers seafront restaurants, squares, and bars. While the hotel itself is in a quiet area near small coves and peaceful beaches, guests generally recommend hiring a car to explore the larger island due to its size and the hotel's location outside a small, sleepy village. Complimentary e-bikes are also available for exploring the local area. It's important to note that due to the number of steps within the property, it may not be suitable for guests with limited or restricted mobility, although one suite has been adapted for accessibility.

7. Value & Pricing

While specific price ranges are not explicitly stated, guests indicate that the evening meal in the restaurant can be "expensive." However, the overall consensus is that the luxurious experience, exceptional service, and high-quality facilities make it worth the cost. The hotel receives an 8.2 rating for "Value for money" on Booking.com, suggesting that while it is a premium offering, guests largely feel it delivers on its promise of luxury.

8. Common Complaints

Recurring complaints are minimal, highlighting the hotel's high standards. Minor criticisms include suggestions for lower music volume and jazz music in common areas, and a desire for plusher spa towels. The location, while beautiful and serene, necessitates a rental car for extensive island exploration, which some guests might consider a minor inconvenience. The presence of steps makes it less suitable for guests with mobility issues. However, these points are generally outweighed by the overwhelmingly positive aspects of a stay at Eliamos Villas Hotel & Spa.

Incredible view - only a few villas (I counted 10) - absolute privacy - for a 5 star place a few little things have room for improvement. The Amos Suite is little to small for a couple with 1 kid imo and has no place to store the luggage - staff is very nice and trying to help best they can. Nice service to ride to the hidden beach with the club car. You definitely need a car here as taxi rides ...

Excellent stay at well designed beautiful villas. Everyone was super friendly. We highly recommend Dimitri the fitness instructor. We joined his Pilates sessions daily. I teach yoga myself and Dimitri was a real movement pro. The gym was also outstanding. Kefalonia simply beautiful. We will be back for a longer stay.

When we arrived we had such a warm welcome with fruity Mocktails at the bar. All the staff did a really good job - everybody was so kind and courteous. Our Elia Villa we stayed in had a fantastic garden area and an outdoor salt-water pool that was just amazing. Everything you need for a relaxing holiday. We really enjoyed our stay at Eliamos and can highly recommend it!

We had the most incredible stay here. The whole hotel is stunning, so much thought has gone into each element. We loved the wild planting all around the hotel, mixing thistles, mint, fennel and old olive trees and more. The salt water pools were heaven. The restaurant is perfect, the food was all so delicious, with lots of interesting flavours and local produce. The whole team were so welcomin...

They are incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful. We felt really grateful to be shown such kindness during our stay. The food is amazing. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner here. My favourite was the lamb and the seasoned vegetables. The si...

Beautiful property and location is convenient 15 minute drive from the airport. There are 2-3 beaches, closest one is around 30min walk. Very secluded beach. Another place to swim was not a beach but off the rocky cliffs, they bolted on some ladders where you can swim. Staff were extremely helpful and always making an effort to make your stay comfortable. They provided toys for the kids and very ...
