It holds impressive ratings, including 4.7/5 on Google and Trip, and numerous "Exceptional" and "Superb" reviews on Booking.com. The sentiment is one of awe and deep satisfaction, highlighting its status as a premier luxury destination.
2. Key Highlights
Guests are consistently captivated by the Château's historical ambiance and breathtaking setting. Key highlights include its status as the Netherlands' only terraced castle, featuring exquisite Baroque gardens that are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The historic Marl Caves offer a distinctive experience for aperitifs or coffee and serve as a remarkable venue for events. The property is renowned for its culinary pedigree, housing a Michelin-starred restaurant and a Michelin Bib Gourmand bistro. Excellent service, comfort, and the overall unique atmosphere are frequently lauded.
3. Room Quality
Château Neercanne offers seven exclusive, five-star suites meticulously integrated into the original 17th-century lodgement. These elegant accommodations blend historical elements with modern design and comfort. Each suite is equipped with air-conditioning, a private bathroom (some with garden views), a minibar, and a work desk. While generally luxurious, one guest suggested that brighter lighting in the rooms could be beneficial. One ground-floor suite is also designed to be wheelchair accessible.
4. Dining Experience
Dining at Château Neercanne is a significant draw and a highlight for many visitors. The property boasts two acclaimed restaurants:
- Restaurant Château Neercanne holds a coveted Michelin star, offering innovative French-inspired cuisine. Chef de Cuisine Robert Levels uses seasonal ingredients, often sourced from the château's own garden, to create expertly prepared dishes. Menus are frequently updated, with a strong focus on fresh, local produce.
- L'Auberge is awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand, providing a more bistro-style dining experience.
Guests consistently praise the "super restaurant, super breakfast" and the exquisite food, often highlighting the perfect wine pairings. Vegetarian and vegan options are thoughtfully prepared, with ingredients often harvested from the château's garden. The opportunity to enjoy an aperitif in the historic Marl Caves before dinner is a truly unique experience.

Complimentary parking is available for guests, including electric vehicle charging stations. The slightly secluded location contributes to its serene atmosphere, a short distance from the vibrant city life of Maastricht.
7. Value & Pricing
As a Michelin Key Two-Keys property and a 5-star hotel, Château Neercanne commands a premium, which guests generally consider to be well worth the cost for the exceptional experience. Room rates for suites start around US$588-€597. Dining at the Michelin-starred restaurant can range from €80-€140 for an average bill. Specific menus include a 2-course lunch for €95 and a 4-course dinner for €115, both inclusive of aperitif, wine, water, and coffee/tea. Breakfast is an additional charge, approximately €40 for adults. There is also a Heritage Fee of €2.50 per room, per night, contributing to the preservation of the historic property.
8. Common Complaints
While overwhelmingly positive, some minor criticisms have been noted by guests. A few reviewers mentioned the absence of a swimming pool or an indoor spa facility, which might be expected in some 5-star establishments. One guest experienced not having their luggage carried, and another pointed out that the small staircases could make it challenging to carry one's own luggage, although the hotel affirms that luggage assistance is a standard service. The suggestion for brighter lighting in some rooms was also a rare comment. These points, however, are infrequent and do not detract from the overall exceptional guest satisfaction.

Obviously a wonderful place. It is however disappointing, when staying overnight, to see that the bathroom opens into the bedroom. No privacy and messy. Not acceptable in a 5 star place with 5 star prices. Service sketchy when events are going on. Hotel should be used to that and plan accordingly. Finally, maybe more of a personal preference, breakfast was good, not great, and no eggs were offered...

Absolutely lovely! Perhaps the best restaurant I ever visited. Superb service, great history, top notch food and an indescribable vibe. Words can’t describe this “hidden” gem 💎 close to Maastricht. To both of us, it always gives a majestic feeling.

We had one of the best lunches ever and great service. Only the location of the entry to L'Auberge (second door) could be a little bit more clear, the rest was perfect

I’d hoped to enjoy a sundowner, but there was a private wedding taking place. Even so, I was in absolute awe of the exterior, the gardens, and the breathtaking views. Definitely would love to visit in the near future.
