The interior architecture is described as calm, elegant, and soulful, creating a luxurious yet cozy atmosphere.
  • Dining Experience: The food and dining options receive near-perfect scores, often cited as a major highlight. The hotel is home to acclaimed restaurants, including a Michelin Guide-selected restaurant, offering gourmet dishes and local specialties.

3. Room Quality

The rooms and suites at Ansitz Steinbock are a testament to comfort and sophisticated design. Each of the 12 suites is individually and uniquely designed, blending sleek elegance with purity of design and high-quality solid wood furnishings. Nearly all rooms are over 40 m² in size, with some suites like the Neuhaus Suite offering up to 62 m² and two separate bedrooms. Exquisite details include rustic beam ceilings with wood carvings. Many rooms boast private balconies with stunning mountain views, and some even feature a freestanding bathtub in the center of the room. A significant advantage highlighted by guests is that almost all rooms and suites are equipped with a private Finnish or infrared sauna, offering a private wellness experience. Rooms are air-conditioned and include satellite flat-screen TVs and private bathrooms with complimentary toiletries, hairdryers, bathrobes, and slippers.

4. Dining Experience

Dining at Ansitz Steinbock is a culinary journey that consistently receives top marks. The hotel features three different restaurant concepts: a cozy à la carte restaurant called Stain, an exquisite gourmet restaurant known as "La Lumosa," and a focus on regional treats and top cuisine. The gourmet restaurant, "La Lumosa," offers a contemporary tasting menu that can be configured into five or six courses. Head chef René Tschager and his team craft dishes inspired by traditional South Tyrolean cuisine with a contemporary twist, often based on forgotten ingredients and reviving traditional preparation methods. The use of fresh, high-quality local ingredients is a priority.

For hotel guests, a half-board option is available, which typically includes a varied five-course Alpine dinner, known as Steinbock Klassik. Breakfast is a magnificent buffet featuring superb regional products such as homemade bread, jams, cheeses, and cold cuts. The impressive Gothic-style wine cellar, located six meters underground, houses over 800 wine labels, including rare South Tyrolean gems, and offers guided wine tastings.

5. Service & Staff

The hospitality at Ansitz Steinbock is frequently cited as a highlight. The team, led by hostess Elisabeth Rabensteiner, is described as conscientious, grounded, and attentive, creating an atmosphere where guests feel truly welcome. 6. Location & Accessibility

Ansitz Steinbock is centrally located in the heart of Villandro, a picturesque village nestled in the mountains of South Tyrol. This location offers an oasis of tranquility and provides stunning views of the valley. Villandro itself boasts a vibrant village center and is an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area, with numerous hiking trails in the immediate vicinity. Attractions like Val Gardena, Bolzano, Lake Kalterer See, and Alpe di Siusi are all within easy reach. The property offers free private parking.

7. Value & Pricing

The hotel's commitment to providing excellent value is evident in its high scores for value for money. While specific pricing can vary, Kayak indicates an average weeknight price of $385, with prices potentially dropping by 4% in the low season (March) and rising by 29% in the high season (August). Guests generally feel that the outstanding quality of service, amenities, and dining justifies the cost, considering it a "luxury stay that exceeded expectations."

8. Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, a few minor criticisms have been noted by some guests:

  • Lack of Spa/Fitness Center: Some guests, particularly those accustomed to larger resorts, mentioned the absence of a dedicated spa or fitness center. However, the private saunas in nearly all rooms mitigate this for many.
  • Occasional Service Issues: One review noted a disappointing reception experience upon arrival, with a wait and an unwelcoming staff member, though this appears to be an isolated incident compared to the general praise for service.
  • Dietary Needs: While breakfast is praised, some guests have reported issues with specific dietary needs.
  • Restaurant Closure: The main restaurant is closed on Mondays, which guests should be aware of when planning their stay.

When I arrive the hotel there’s no one here, not a single person here for my check-in. Waited for 30 mins until I saw one person appear, and then waited another 10 mins for him to ask the manager to come out to do the check in for me. Also note that there’s no lift in the hotel The lady manager is super impolite. Although the room is nice, restaurant service and food is good. But the lady manage...

Incredible hotel and very high class food. This hotel gives you the best mix of the old architecture/vibe but combining it with high quality and modern rooms. The hotel itself is very old so you can definitely see the history and its charm. Despite how old the building actually is, the rooms and common area felt newly renovated and boasts world class furniture and architecture. Most importantly t...

Positives: - big modern rooms with a nice view - Nice old style building - good breakfast Negatives: - No spa/ fitness centre as advertised on booking.com, when we asked about the spa we were told it was a random 3rd party who comes into the room and is subject to his availability - Pool is a 5 minute walk away ...

Very nice hotel with beautiful rooms. For our dinner we enjoyed a delicious 6 course meal at "la Lumosa". The service was very professional and friendly. The food was really delicious, innovative and well worth the price.

Super cozy place to wind down !! Elizabeth and her colleagues took very good care of the smallest of things. Elizabeth also helped and planned day trips in the dolomites. She knows the area like it’s her back yard. Rooms are done with the minutest of details and fine dining experience is a must do. We were a group of vegetarians and the chef did a fantastic job!
