Expert Review: The Standard Bangkok

The Standard Bangkok, a prominent Michelin Key Selected property, stands as a vibrant and luxurious destination within the iconic King Power Mahanakhon Building. It consistently garners high praise for its distinctive design, exceptional service, and diverse culinary offerings, making it a standout choice in the bustling city.

Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for The Standard Bangkok is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing it as "exceptional," "amazing," and "the most beautiful hotel." It's celebrated for its stylish, funky, and youthful vibe, offering a high-end yet unstuffy atmosphere. Its recognition as a Michelin Key Selected property further underscores its commitment to quality and providing a special guest experience.

Key Highlights

Guests particularly love the hotel's striking design, which blends retro-futuristic aesthetics with bright colors, playful curves, and unique art pieces, often likened to a "Wes Anderson-inspired creation." The service is consistently highlighted as excellent, with staff frequently going "above and beyond." Its prime location within the King Power Mahanakhon Building, offering stunning city views, is another major draw. The hotel boasts an impressive array of amenities, including a lively social scene, a 24/7 state-of-the-art gym, a beautiful outdoor terrace pool, and an in-house recording studio.

Room Quality

The rooms and suites at The Standard Bangkok are noted for their spaciousness, comfort, and unique design. Guests enjoy large king-size beds and floor-to-ceiling windows that provide incredible views of the Bangkok skyline. Standard rooms often include a dining/lounge area and a well-stocked minibar. Bathrooms are generously sized, featuring separate soaking tubs and rainfall showers, alongside modern conveniences like Japanese bidets or Toto toilets. While complimentary toiletries are provided, some are in full-size, wall-mounted dispensers.

Dining Experience

The hotel offers an exceptional and diverse dining experience across its seven restaurants and bars. The breakfast receives high praise, featuring extensive buffet options and an unlimited à la carte menu with both Western and Asian dishes. Highlights include Ojo, a Mexican restaurant on the 76th floor known for its glamorous design and panoramic 360-degree city views. Other notable establishments include Mott 32 for award-winning Cantonese cuisine, The Standard Grill for American steakhouse classics, Tease for an eclectic afternoon tea, and Double Standard, an all-day pub. Poolside drink and meal service is also available.

Service & Staff

The service at The Standard Bangkok is a consistent point of excellence. Guests frequently commend the staff for being "super friendly," "welcoming," "attentive," and "personable." Many reviewers mention staff going "above and beyond" to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay, often providing advice and escorting guests.

Location & Accessibility

Strategically located in the vibrant Silom/Sathorn business district, The Standard Bangkok occupies a prominent position within the visually striking King Power Mahanakhon Building. Its accessibility is a major advantage, being just a short walk from the Chong Nonsi BTS Skytrain station, which connects guests easily to key attractions like Lumphini Park, Siam Paragon, CentralWorld, and the lively nightlife and street food of Silom Road. Hotel guests also benefit from complimentary access or vouchers for Sky Beach, the highest rooftop bar, and the Mahanakhon SkyWalk observation deck, offering breathtaking city vistas.

Value & Pricing

The Standard Bangkok is generally considered to offer excellent value for its luxury and unique experience. Standard King rooms are typically priced around $240-$283 per night, with some rates including breakfast. This pricing is seen as competitive and provides a high level of quality and comfort unmatched by many other hotels in the city at a similar price point.

Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, some recurring criticisms include the hotel's layout feeling "disjointed" for some, particularly regarding access to Sky Beach and Ojo. These venues, located at the top of the King Power Mahanakhon tower, require guests to exit the hotel and use a separate observation deck lobby, often shared with non-hotel guests. Battling crowds, especially during sunset at Sky Beach, has also been noted. Isolated issues such as slow breakfast service, cold food, a broken glass door leading to the pool area, tiny mini-fridges, and complicated toilet seats have been mentioned. Additionally, a temporary pool closure disappointed some guests.

The interior design is like if a doctor’s office bead maze was made into a building for affluent millennials. I loved the bathroom / shower in my room and the steam room at the gym. I do wish there were not children running and jumping on the pool deck, and that they did now allow wannabe influencers to openly record during meals. Sit on the far side of the pool if they are cleaning the windows, t...

Amazing hotel. Lovely, kind, and helpful staff. We didn’t even mention a birthday and they took notice from our passports and delivered a cake to the room. Clean, stylish, and functional room design. Comfortable beds with modern amenities - big gym and nice pool. Room service food is also fantastic with very reasonable prices. Don’t hesitate to stay here.

Probably the best Hyatt stay I’ve had. The room was incredible. The shower was excellent. The gym and steam room were outstanding. The staff were consistently friendly and attentive throughout my stay. As a Hyatt Globalist, I received a room upgrade and complimentary breakfast, which was a great perk. I liked the property so much that I came back a week later and stayed for an additional three ni...

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the Standard. The style of the hotel and rooms is very colorful and fun, super clean and classy. Our favorite stay in Bangkok. The view is amazing and the rooftop bar / skywalk is definitely worth visiting. We tried two cocktails at the Parlor - Roaming Bliss and Rice Harmony. Rice Harmony stole the show, definitely give that one a try if you’re visiting th...

A wonderfully weird and luxury experience this made for a great stay in Bangkok, with its endlessly slightly wonky nature helping soften the blow of a dramatic change in culture and atmosphere. From the gently disturbing murmuring of the lifts to the unusual but stylish aesthetic we will miss it as our holiday continues. Food was excellent, particularly the breakfast which may be the best and mos...

I stayed here as a couple for two nights in January. We stayed using a Cat 4 redemption, and were very nicely upgraded to a deluxe king. The bed was large and sheets were very comfortable. I loved that the blackout curtains were very effective. The room felt large and roomy, and I appreciated the use of glass bottles to reduce plastic waste. I enjoy tea and also liked the selection provided in t...
