The restaurant offers a "delightful dining experience" with an inviting atmosphere and stylish yet cozy decor. There is a strong commitment to using locally sourced, seasonal, and responsibly grown produce, with ambitions to grow more directly from the Denton Reserve.

Common Complaints

Despite the overwhelmingly positive feedback, a few minor recurring issues have been noted by some guests:

  • Room Lighting: Several reviews mention that the rooms can be "dark" or "dimly lit," making it difficult for tasks like applying makeup or reading without additional light.
  • Limited Amenities in Rooms: Suggestions for additional in-room amenities like shower caps, toothpaste, and water top-ups have been made.
  • Service Inconsistencies: While generally excellent, a few minor "teething issues" with service have been reported, such as difficulties splitting bills, incorrect drink orders, slow service, and missed dessert orders.
  • Restaurant/Breakfast Availability: The restaurant and pub are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, meaning no breakfast is served on these days, which some guests found inconvenient.
  • No TVs in Rooms: The intentional absence of televisions in rooms, designed to promote a distraction-free environment, might not appeal to all guests.

Great dinner at The Penny Bun. The food was delicious, as were the drinks. Nice atmosphere with low lighting and calming decor. Would have liked to have been in the annex/extension; I think that would be the best place on a light evening. We did have a bit of trouble with the booking but it was quickly resolved by staff. I think as a result, we may have received a little slower service than usual ...

We recently visited to meet visiting family members as it had easy parking and a beautiful location. I'd heard the food was good (only sampled starters in the past) but feel I need to leave a review now to highlight how happy we were with everything. It was all incredibly tasty and we left feeling full (shamefully over ordered and had to leave a few bits). Decor was beautiful and stylish. Prices ...

Sunday Lunch. Amazing. So many Sunday lunches out are good, but not as good as one at home. This is. Most tender beef we’ve ever had served with so many veg's, roasties and a cauli cheese. Desserts, wine and White Rat beer all first class. Staff are really helpful, efficient and very pleasant. 10/10.

We visited this wonderful spot this afternoon for Sunday lunch. I had arancini followed by roast beef. I also tried the Shiraz and a pint of ale. Everything was 10/10 exceptional and I hope I can return one day. Thank you.

The Penny Bun used to be fantastic, but our last two visits were rather disappointing. The food has definitely gone downhill, with the menu featuring mainly fish, veggie or vegan. The Xmas menu turkey main was so bland and utterly tasteless, the halibut en papillot was overcooked with undercooked pieces of in inedible leek. Service was a let down too, our drinks were always empty and I ended up go...

I wish I could be writing a better review for this lovely pub, so let me start with the positives and highlight a couple of areas where we felt there could be some improvement. 1. The area is gorgeous and the finish inside the pub is to die for; 2. The food is really excellent. However, it was let down massively by the service. Within 10 minutes of us being sat down the venue rang to ask if we wo...
