Expert Review: The George, College Station
The George, College Station, a Michelin Key Selected property, offers a sophisticated blend of rustic charm and refined elegance in the heart of College Station, Texas. It is celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere, excellent service, and prime location within the lively Century Square development.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The George consistently receives high praise from guests, boasting an impressive overall rating of 9.3 on Agoda and 8.7 on Booking.com, reflecting an "Exceptional" to "Excellent" consensus. Guests frequently describe it as a "fabulous hotel" that provides a "fun and memorable stay." The sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many considering it their "home away from home."
2. Key Highlights
Guests particularly love the hotel's central location, friendly and helpful staff, and the vibrant atmosphere. The unique design, often described as "beautiful" with "beautiful details everywhere," and its signature scent throughout the lobby are also frequently highlighted. Amenities such as the nice outdoor pool area, a well-regarded bar, and proximity to shops and restaurants are also key draws.
3. Room Quality
The rooms at The George are described as luxurious, comfortable, and beautifully designed, often featuring a unique "train theme" or a "vintage modern design." Guests appreciate the spaciousness, with Classic and Deluxe rooms offering over 400 square feet. Accommodations include custom Valencia beds with Egyptian cotton linens, 50-inch flatscreen Smart TVs, large work desks, complimentary Katz Coffee, a fully-stocked honor bar, free WiFi, in-room safes, and cozy bathrobes. Some rooms even feature a cozy fireplace, adding a touch of warmth and charm. Views of the city, Kyle Field, the Bonfire Memorial, and the Texas A&M campus are available. While generally comfortable, some past guests have mentioned issues with uncomfortable beds or dripping AC.
4. Dining Experience
The George offers a delightful culinary experience with its on-site restaurant and the popular 1791 Whiskey Bar. The restaurant provides a sophisticated and inviting atmosphere with a diverse menu crafted by talented chefs, featuring options from mouthwatering steaks and seafood to flavorful vegetarian dishes. Breakfast is served daily with a variety of options including continental, American, buffet, and à la carte, featuring local specialties and fresh pastries. Room service is also available for those who prefer to dine in the comfort of their room. The 1791 Whiskey Bar is a highlight, offering a curated selection of world-class whiskeys and handcrafted cocktails, and is a sensible place to begin or end an evening. However, one past guest in 2022 noted that the bartenders at the whiskey bar admitted to not knowing much about whiskey.
5. Service & Staff
The service at The George is consistently lauded as excellent, with staff described as "friendly and helpful," and "incredibly nice." Guests have reported that requests are readily granted, including early check-in and late check-out. The hotel also provides a 24-hour front desk, concierge services, and multilingual staff.
6. Location & Accessibility
The hotel boasts a prime and "excellent" location in the vibrant Northgate neighborhood, within the 60-acre mixed-use Century Square development. This central position offers easy access to a dynamic mix of entertainment, dining, and shopping options right outside the doors. It is particularly convenient for visitors to Texas A&M University, being just a short walk (1 minute or 2297 feet) from the campus and attractions like the Albritton Bell Tower, J. Wayne Stark University Center Galleries, and MSC Forsyth Center Galleries. Kyle Field and the Texas A&M Bonfire Memorial are also within easy reach. The hotel is approximately 2.5 miles from Easterwood Airport and offers complimentary shuttle service within a 5-mile radius, including transportation to and from Kyle Field on game days. Free self-parking and valet parking are available.
7. Value & Pricing
The George offers a luxurious experience, and while specific pricing fluctuates, room rates can range from approximately $71 to $896, with classic rooms sometimes starting around $71 and deluxe rooms around $141. Agoda guests have given it an outstanding rating of 9.0 for value. Booking.com rates its value for money at 8.2, while Momondo rates it at 8.4. The hotel also includes an $18 nightly destination fee, which provides an $18 credit for dining at 1791 Whiskey Bar or in-room dining, high-speed Wi-Fi, 24-hour gym access, and complimentary shuttle service within a 5-mile radius. Many guests consider it a luxury hotel offering an exceptional experience at reasonable prices.
8. Common Complaints
While overwhelmingly positive, some guests have reported a few recurring issues. These include complaints about noise levels, particularly in relation to the vibrant Northgate area or proximity to the train tracks. As mentioned, a past review also cited uncomfortable beds and issues with air conditioning dripping water. One guest in 2022 expressed disappointment about the lack of an on-site restaurant for breakfast (though current information indicates breakfast is served daily at 1791 Whiskey Bar) and perceived a lack of whiskey knowledge from bartenders. Additionally, a minor complaint noted that the bathroom tiles could be quite slick.

The George is a very nice hotel that served us well as we celebrated a graduation. There is a resort fee, which I was aware of. I was so happy to learn upon check-in that food and beverage charges at their in house bar/restaurant would be credited back towards that resort fee. I was surprised when I received my bill that I was charged for the breakfast I had at the bar before check out (rather tha...

Highly recommend this hotel. Plenty of shops and restaurants near by. There is sheep that you can move around the hotel. As you see in my photo some was having fun with the concept. The rooms are comfortable. One very small thing that i notice is the hotel is decorated with beautiful dark warm colors with dim lighting which made it harder to see. Would stay again.

Check out the bar “1791” Whiskey bar. If you enjoy cocktails, this is the best place in town! All of the bartenders are incredible. On my most recent visit, Tori was my bartender; she makes a great Old Fashioned!

Mandatory Building charge of $18 each per night added on despite not being shown when booking. No coffee refill as standard on multi-night stays. Would expect better from a hotel positioning itself as higher end.
