2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently rave about several aspects of Stallmästaregården:

  • Location & Ambiance: The hotel's setting in Haga Park, overlooking Brunnsviken Bay, provides a tranquil, almost country-like escape just minutes from the city center. The historic buildings and gardens are frequently highlighted as charming and beautiful.
  • Dining: Both breakfast and the restaurant's dinner offerings receive widespread acclaim for their quality and presentation.
  • Service: The staff are repeatedly described as friendly, helpful, and attentive.
  • Design & Character: The hotel successfully blends its historic inn heritage with modern design elements, creating a "modern farmhouse vibe" that guests appreciate. The property's character and tasteful decoration are often mentioned.

3. Room Quality

Stallmästaregården's 49 rooms feature bright, timeless décor and are designed in an 18th-century Swedish style with a contemporary twist.

  • Comfort: Rooms are generally described as very comfortable, with luxurious Hästens beds being a standout feature. Guests also appreciate the quietness of the rooms, especially those with garden views.
  • Design & Amenities: Rooms include a writing desk and bathrooms stocked with amenities by Stockholm-based Byredo Parfums. Suites offer more space and natural light through oversized windows. Some suites, like the Junior Suite, are split-level with a downstairs lounge and upstairs bedroom, and include an in-room espresso maker. However, some rooms, particularly standard ones, may be smaller. While some older reviews mention a lack of in-room tea/coffee facilities, newer descriptions of suites include Nespresso machines and kettles. Free wired internet and satellite TV are available.

4. Dining Experience

The dining experience at Stallmästaregården is a significant highlight for many guests.

  • Restaurant: The in-house restaurant, also called Stallmästaregården, is Michelin Guide-approved and specializes in modern versions of Swedish classics, utilizing local and seasonal ingredients. The dining room is noted for its elegant, modern farm-style ambiance, with a charming old dining hall and a terrace open during summer months. Dinner is highly rated, though it can be fully booked, so reservations are recommended.
  • Breakfast: Complimentary for all guests, the buffet-style breakfast is frequently described as "fantastic," "superb," and "excellent," offering a wide variety of high-quality, refined options. Hot dishes like scrambled eggs are kept warm, and the selection includes excellent Swedish rye bread, a good meat and cheese station, and an extensive muesli station. While some guests note that breakfast hours might be late on weekends (7:30 AM) and some traditional Swedish items like herring or fried eggs might be missing from the buffet, the overall quality is highly praised.

5. Service & Staff

The service and staff at Stallmästaregården receive consistent praise. Guests frequently highlight the staff as very helpful, friendly, polite, and accommodating. Specific instances of staff going above and beyond, such as quickly moving guests to a different room due to temperature issues, are mentioned.

Taxis and Ubers are readily available for a quick 10-minute journey to the city center. Free parking is also available on-site. Some guests note that public transportation might require a bit of a walk, and taxis/Ubers can sometimes have trouble locating the exact address.

7. Value & Pricing

While specific price ranges are not explicitly stated in all reviews, Stallmästaregården is generally considered to offer good value for money, scoring 8.3 out of 10 for value on Booking.com. The inclusion of a highly-rated breakfast and free parking contributes to this perception. Prices can start from around $147 nightly.

8. Common Complaints

Despite the overwhelmingly positive feedback, a few recurring issues and criticisms have been noted by guests:

  • Construction Noise: Some recent reviews mention significant noise from nearby construction sites, which can impact views and the external ambiance, especially in rooms facing the construction.
  • Room Temperature/HVAC: A few guests have reported issues with room temperature control, finding rooms either too hot or too cold, with some difficulty in resolving these issues.
  • Breakfast Timing/Selection: While generally excellent, some guests found the weekend breakfast opening time of 7:30 AM to be a bit late and noted the absence of certain traditional Swedish breakfast items.
  • Accessibility: The hotel is located near a highway, and while rooms with garden or inner yard views mitigate noise, some rooms might face the highway. Also, the steep stairs in some loft suites could be a challenge for guests with mobility issues.
  • Minor Room Amenities: Occasional feedback includes the lack of tea/coffee making facilities in some standard rooms (though available in suites) and issues with showerhead holders.

I stayed at Stallmästaregården for 4 nights and really enjoyed my time there. My room was on the smaller side but very charming, with lovely design details and direct access to the yard, which I found cozy and convenient. The style of the hotel is so cute and well thought out — it really adds to the overall atmosphere. The breakfast was quite nice, and I especially loved the breads, which were fre...

Stayed with my partner and baby for a long weekend in November/December. I can unfortunately not recommend staying at the hotel. There are a lot of constructions going on around and inside the hotel. We were woken up at 7AM by loud construction sounds in the room across from us that woke our baby up and had to quickly take our baby outside in the stroller so that he could sleep. We complained but...

There was really loud construction work going on in the room next to ours starting from 7:00 AM. We stayed there in November/December and the temperature in our room was stiflingly hot. Our baby monitor showed 26ºC throughout the entire stay, even though we asked them to turn down the temperature. Opening the windows did not help at all. The internet didn't work, so don't plan on working from ther...

This could have been a jolly little youth hostel. But for a Marriott Design Hotel, it is pretty underwhelming. If I wanted to experience how people lived 200 years ago, I would visit Skansen. That said, big things seem to be happening; judging by the constitution noises, somebody is tearing down the east wing and building a new ballroom.

I can fully recommend this hotel: beautifully located by a pond, very cozy, excellent food, lovely suites, and above all extremely friendly staff. They went to great lengths to prepare a wonderful birthday surprise in December. Many thanks!

The rooms are top notch. (The best water pressure I can remember having in a shower anywhere! Invigorating!) The restaurant is great... Dinner was amazing! A good selection of local dishes. Service couldn't be beat with every interaction. Friendly, helpful, giving extra multiple times. Highly recommend! Note - One of our rooms was a junior suite that had a second floor bedroom.
