Expert Review: SEAMARQ Hotel

SEAMARQ Hotel in Gangwon-do, Korea, a Michelin Key Selected property, consistently receives high praise for its stunning architecture, luxurious amenities, and prime beachfront location. It is lauded as a top-tier destination for both leisure and relaxation.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

SEAMARQ Hotel garners an outstanding overall rating, frequently scoring above 9 out of 10 on various platforms. The sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with guests describing their stays as "dreamy," "exceptional," and "perfect." It is widely recognized as a luxury 5-star hotel that exceeds expectations.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently highlight the hotel's breathtaking design, courtesy of renowned architect Richard Meier, which seamlessly integrates the surrounding nature with abundant natural light. The direct beachfront access and stunning views of the East Sea, Gyeongpo Lake, or green mountains are major draws. The indoor and outdoor infinity pools, including a heated option, and the full-service spa are frequently mentioned as exceptional facilities. The hotel's commitment to eco-friendliness, using premium organic brands and growing its own vegetables, is also appreciated by some.

3. Room Quality

The rooms at SEAMARQ Hotel are described as spacious, open, and airy, featuring high ceilings, full-height windows, and balconies that offer picturesque views. Guests enjoy the comfort of the accommodations, which are equipped with modern amenities such as air conditioning, flat-screen TVs with streaming services, minibars, coffee makers, and luxurious toiletries. Bathrooms typically include both a shower and a bathtub, along with bathrobes and slippers. For a unique experience, some suites incorporate traditional Korean "ondol" (underfloor heating) floors and traditional furnishings.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel offers a diverse culinary experience with two restaurants and a bar/lounge. "The Restaurant" serves an elegant blend of traditional Korean and international cuisines, while "Chef's Table" offers European meals. The buffet breakfast is particularly lauded for its variety and delicious options, with guests praising the ocean-side views, and mentions of tasty sushi, sashimi, and Korean dishes. Afternoon tea is served in the lounge bar, and room service is available for convenience. The hotel also uses vegetables and fruits grown in its own garden for meals.

5. Service & Staff

The staff at SEAMARQ Hotel are consistently described as friendly, helpful, and exceptionally courteous, contributing significantly to a pleasant stay. Reviewers often note the personalized attention and the warm welcome received. However, one guest reported a lack of bellman service for luggage assistance.

6. Location & Accessibility

SEAMARQ Hotel boasts a prime beachfront location on Gyeongpo Beach, nestled between the East Sea and Gyeongpo Lake. This allows for stunning sunrise views, reportedly the earliest on the Korean Peninsula. It's conveniently located within walking distance to Gyeongpo Beach and a short distance from attractions like Heogyun-Heonanseolheon Memorial and Chodang Sundubu Village. The hotel is approximately a 40-50 minute drive from Yangyang International Airport. For ground transport, Gangneung Station is about 4 km away, and Jeongdongjin Station is also accessible. The hotel offers free on-site parking and a shuttle service, enhancing accessibility to local sights and transport hubs.

Typical room prices average around $294 per night, though they can range from approximately $161 to over $900 for suites, depending on the season and room type. Despite the cost, many guests consider their stay to be excellent value for money, citing the world-class facilities, stunning views, and high level of service as justifying the expense.

8. Common Complaints

While overall satisfaction is very high, a few minor issues have been reported. One guest experienced difficulties with the room's air conditioning, finding the room too warm, and a malfunctioning front door lock during their stay. Another review mentioned potential noise from neighboring rooms as a concern for light sleepers. The absence of bellman service for luggage was also noted by one guest.

I stayed at Seamarq Hotel in Gangneung, and I can confidently say that the ocean view was one of the best I’ve ever seen. The hotel is located right by the beach, offering breathtaking scenery from every angle. In the morning, I enjoyed a peaceful walk along the beach, and in the afternoon, I took a relaxing stroll around Gangneung Lake, which is just behind the hotel. The price is on the higher...

Beautiful architecture, amazing service, great view. But the food… was a huge disappointment. I was expecting a 5 star hotel meal, not a 29.99 dollar all you can eat meal. I know it is a buffet style dinner so you can’t really complain about the temperature or the freshness of food that much. But a lots of food were not seasoned properly, where simple things like soups and pasta being too sweet, t...

If you're seeking an unforgettable holiday in Korea, you should give this place a go. It was designed by the world-famous architect Richard Meier, and every corner of the hotel is beautiful. My favourite room type would be the corner suite that features a stunning ocean view, a beautiful standalone hot tub with a phenomenal view of the East Sea, and a separate bedroom and living room. They have tw...

Very fine hotel. Pretty expensive, but worth it. View of Gallery Double Room is awesome. You can see the sea and the lake in one room. The hotel is built on the hill, so the view is good even in the low floor room. Room is clear, people are kind and professional. Best hotel in this city i guess. It has fine-looks swim pool on top and sauna, but i didn't use it.
