Expert Review: Little Beach House Barcelona

Little Beach House Barcelona, nestled in the serene fishing village of Garraf, has garnered a Michelin Key One-Key recognition for its exceptional qualities, offering a stylish and secluded coastal retreat just a short distance from the bustling city.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for Little Beach House Barcelona is overwhelmingly positive, often described as a "gorgeously retro, coastal escape" and providing a "very special stay." Guests consistently praise its unique charm, stunning beachfront location, and impeccable design. It's considered an ideal destination for those seeking relaxation and a chic getaway.

2. Key Highlights

Guests are particularly fond of several standout features:

  • Location: The hotel boasts an idyllic, secluded beachfront location in Garraf, offering panoramic sea views from the moment guests enter. The ability to fall asleep to the sound of waves just feet away is a major draw.
  • Design: Housed in a restored 1950s low-rise building, the hotel beautifully blends its heritage with a contemporary take on coastal chic, incorporating traditional rustic touches and bohemian glamour. Highlights include tactile wall hangings, pebbly ceramic light fixtures, and stunning turquoise terrazzo flooring in common areas.
  • Amenities: The property offers a wraparound terrace restaurant and a rooftop terrace, both providing incredible bay views. It features three distinct dining venues: the indoor-outdoor Club, the beachside La Caseta, and the Beachroof. Guests also appreciate facilities for freshening up post-checkout, complete with Cowshed toiletries. The hotel operates as a Soho House property, meaning guests become temporary members with access to cozy lounge spaces and a seasonal semi-outdoor spa.

3. Room Quality

The hotel comprises 17 bedrooms, some offering desirable sea views and balconies. While the rooms retain their original 1950s square footage, which might be considered smaller by contemporary standards, they are uniformly comfortable and exquisitely stylish. The design in each room features custom-designed rugs, lamps crafted by a local Barcelona ceramist, and tapestry wall hangings by artist Maryanne Moodie. Thoughtful details like Marshall speakers and in-room coffee machines contribute to a luxurious yet understated atmosphere. Bathrooms are typically terracotta-tiled and stocked with Cowshed products.

4. Dining Experience

The dining experience at Little Beach House Barcelona is highly rated for its excellent food, with a menu that artfully combines traditional Spanish fare with Soho House favorites. The House Kitchen restaurant, in particular, focuses on Spanish seafood, offering dishes like tapas, wood-oven pizza, and a signature all-day paella cooked in a wood fire. Guests have praised specific dishes such as vinegar anchovies, octopus, and sea bream. While the food quality is excellent, some guests note that the menu can be quite short and the same for both lunch and dinner, potentially limiting variety for longer stays. Breakfast is not included in the room rate, but continental and à la carte options are available for purchase.

5. Service & Staff

Although specific guest feedback on individual staff members is not extensively detailed, the overall sentiment points to a high level of hospitality. The hotel's ethos, consistent with Soho House properties, aims to provide a "home from home" experience. The staff encourages guests to utilize the facilities even after checking out, offering shower rooms, towels, and lockers, which is seen as a thoughtful gesture. Reviews mention "exceptional service" and "excellent facilities".

6. Location & Accessibility

Little Beach House Barcelona is strategically located in Garraf, a picturesque fishing village approximately 30 minutes south of Barcelona city center. It's easily accessible by taxi or a very affordable commuter train from Barcelona. Notably, it's also a convenient 10-minute taxi ride from Barcelona Airport, making it an ideal choice for the beginning or end of a trip. The hotel's position directly on the beach is a major draw. Garraf itself is described as a tiny village, offering a tranquil escape rather than numerous attractions, which suits guests looking for relaxation. For more dining and entertainment options, the livelier town of Sitges is a short distance away.

7. Value & Pricing

As a Michelin Key One-Keys property and part of the Soho House collection, Little Beach House Barcelona is positioned as a premium offering. While exact daily rates can vary, prices around $381.27 per night have been noted, with potential offers reducing this. A "Soho Friends membership" fee of €140 is typically added to non-member room rates to grant access to the property. Guests often feel the experience is "worth the price" for the unique design, location, and atmosphere.

8. Common Complaints

The most frequently mentioned "complaint," more of a practical note, is the somewhat limited and unchanging menu for lunch and dinner, which might necessitate guests venturing out for more culinary variety if staying for more than a couple of nights. Additionally, the rooms, while tastefully designed, are noted to be on the "smaller side" when compared to modern hotel room standards, though clever layouts and charming decor help to mitigate this. It is also important to note that Little Beach House Barcelona is a seasonal property, typically closed from mid-October to April.

Beautiful stay. These reviews are clearly / mostly written by non members who are unsure that you have to be a member to visit the beach house. Staff were so accommodating, lovely and just amazing all round to be honest. From the bar staff, to reception, to the cleaners, everyone was lovely and went the extra mile. If you treat staff with respect, you will get that back. The food was 10/10, the h...

The hotel staff were non attentive and difficult to locate if needed. Our first night at the restaurant was almost comical since they gave us menus and then when we ordered, they proceeded to tell us they were out of almost everything. We woke up the next morning to the smell of burnt wood in our room. We tried to ignore it and get ready for a day on the beach only to find out that the beach servi...

The hotel is a beautiful place, it is all lovely designed, and the service is good too. About the food I ordered the black paella and I wasn't disappointed. The beach is okay I guess, the sharp rocks under water makes you think twice before going into but in general it is a lovely place.

Heaven when you're in the room or the sea. Hellish on the beach and in the club, which is too small, hot and chaotic. The restaurant managers and floor staff are not up to Soho House standard -- often drunk, rude and inattentive.

Fourth time visiting Little House but have to say this time the service at bar and managing beds outside has really gone downhill……bar service just ignores customers. Standing there 10mins waiting for a drink while three guys look glum and focus on dishwasher work. I just walked away. This is in contrast to other SoHo houses we regularly visit.

I can be a real stickler for service, cleanliness and have some high standards in general. That said I think that a some of these reviews are a touch unfair. My first experience with this house was on a blistering hot Saturday afternoon and I could see why someone would be annoyed or disappointed. I was happy to be there and I decided to spare my judgment for a later date. It was a good day overa...
