Les Cîmes, Le Grand Bornand: A Michelin Key Selected Alpine Gem

Les Cîmes, a charming chalet-hotel nestled in the heart of Le Grand-Bornand, has garnered significant acclaim, earning its place as a Michelin Key Selected property. Guests consistently praise its authentic Alpine atmosphere, exceptional service, and prime location, making it a highly recommended destination for those seeking comfort and tranquility in the mountains.

Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for Les Cîmes is overwhelmingly positive, boasting an "Excellent" satisfaction rating of 92% based on over 500 reviews across various platforms. Guests frequently describe their stays as "very good," "perfect," and a "dream stay". The sentiment highlights a warm, welcoming, and memorable experience.

Key Highlights

Guests consistently laud the hotel's warm welcome and the exceptionally friendly and attentive staff. The authentic chalet design and cozy atmosphere are frequently mentioned, contributing to a sense of well-being and disconnection from daily life. Its privileged location, both in the village and near the ski slopes, is a major draw. The hotel's spa facilities, including a sauna, hammam, and hot tub, are also a significant highlight for relaxation after a day in the mountains. Furthermore, the excellent breakfast receives high praise from numerous visitors.

Room Quality

Les Cîmes offers 5 rooms and 3 suites, each designed to provide comfort and pleasure amidst the mountains. The accommodations are described as "cosy," "well-decorated," and "ravishing," retaining an "old-fashioned Alpine charm". Many rooms and suites feature balconies or terraces that offer beautiful mountain views, allowing guests to savor the majestic surroundings. Some superior suites also include private spa baths or hot tubs for an enhanced experience. However, some guests have noted that certain rooms can feel a bit cramped with "too much stuff," and a recurring minor criticism concerns the shower design in some bathrooms, where the lack of a fixed showerhead or proper shield can lead to water spilling onto the bathroom floor.

Dining Experience

The dining experience at Les Cîmes is a standout feature, particularly the breakfast. It is consistently lauded as "excellent," "delicious," and "remarkably varied and of quality". Guests particularly appreciate the homemade cakes, jams, local cold cuts, and cheeses offered. Beyond breakfast, the hotel also provides a popular brunch service, available by reservation, featuring a selection of local and homemade produce. A rustic lounge bar is also available, providing a perfect spot for après-ski drinks or a relaxing evening.

Service & Staff

The hospitality at Les Cîmes is frequently highlighted as a cornerstone of its appeal. Guests consistently describe the staff and owners as "extremely friendly," "warm," "attentive," and "professional". Many reviews commend their dedication to guest well-being and their flexibility, making visitors feel truly cared for. The team's recommendations for local restaurants are also appreciated.

Location & Accessibility

The hotel boasts an enviable location in Le Grand-Bornand, often described as being in the "heart of the village". It is exceptionally convenient for winter sports enthusiasts, situated just "100m from the slopes" in Chinaillon. Beyond skiing, Les Cîmes serves as an ideal base for exploring the Aravis mountains in warmer months, offering easy access to hiking and cycling routes, including the famous Col de la Colombière. It's also recognized as a great stopping point on the scenic Route des Grandes Alpes. Annecy is approximately 35 km away, making it accessible for day trips.

Value & Pricing

While many guests rate the price category positively, some feedback suggests that the breakfast, although excellent, can be "a bit expensive". There are also occasional comments regarding the "overall value for price," with some guests feeling that room size and amenities could be more competitive for the cost. Typical pricing for a double room starts from approximately €149.00 to €159.00 (room only), with breakfast options pushing the price higher, such as €199.00 for a double room with breakfast.

Common Complaints

Despite the overwhelmingly positive reviews, a few recurring issues have been mentioned by guests. The most specific complaint pertains to the design of some showers, where the lack of a fixed head or a proper screen can result in water splashing throughout the bathroom. Another minor point raised by a guest was the feeling of a room being "equiped with too much stuff which gave us little room to move inside". While the breakfast is highly praised, some guests find it to be "a bit expensive" when offered separately. Additionally, one review mentioned general "issues with bed comfort" and "overall value for price" concerning room size and amenities.

A pretty hotel in a small village with a great breakfast in a cosy "alpine deco" - room. Furniture in our room (mattresses, chairs) were somewhat worn-out and one might get a bit of a back pain from the beds.
