Expert Review: Le Silve

Le Silve, a Michelin Key Selected property nestled in the green valleys beyond Monte Subasio Natural Park in Assisi, Italy, offers guests a serene and immersive Umbrian experience. This charming resort, housed in an ancient building dating back to the 10th century, is celebrated for its tranquil setting, attentive service, and authentic local cuisine.

Overall Rating & Sentiment

Le Silve generally receives "Very Good" to "Excellent" ratings from guests, with an average score often around 8.5 out of 10. The sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many describing it as an "absolute dream" and "one of the most beautiful places to stay at" for those seeking nature and tranquility. Its selection as a Michelin Key property further underscores its quality and unique appeal, promising bold design themes, special experiences, and hyper-personal service.

Key Highlights

Guests consistently praise Le Silve for its stunning natural environment, offering profound tranquility and extraordinary silence. The property's medieval construction and beautiful grounds are frequently highlighted, as are the gorgeous scenery and mountain views. The two lovely swimming pools are a significant draw, often described as magical and well-tended, providing a perfect spot to relax. The excellent food and outstanding staff are also recurring commendations.

Room Quality

The rooms at Le Silve blend ancient and modern styles, featuring rustic and refined details with elegant antique furniture. Guests appreciate the quiet, well-appointed rooms, many offering views of the surrounding nature, gardens, or mountains. Comfort is a key aspect, with mentions of comfortable beds and air conditioning that works well. Bathrooms are typically large and include showers, designer toiletries, and bidets, though some guests have noted that certain bathrooms could benefit from a refresh as they might appear dated. Rooms are equipped with minibars, safes, satellite television, and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Dining Experience

The dining experience at Le Silve is consistently highly rated. Both breakfast and dinner receive strong praise for their quality and use of local produce. The restaurant is known for its incredible experience, with beautifully cooked local Umbrian specialties and a very fine choice of local cuisine. A buffet breakfast is provided and is often described as varied and featuring high-quality products. The hotel is also noted as "Gluten Free Friendly," with certified gluten-free menus available, demonstrating attention to dietary needs. Dining on the large terrace offers a view that reportedly inspired Dante Alighieri.

Service & Staff

The staff at Le Silve is frequently described as outstanding, gracious, attentive, kind, prepared, and cordial. Guests highlight the personalized service and the welcoming nature of the team, with one guest specifically mentioning the staff's courtesy and another thanking the kitchen for making a birthday cake. The multilingual staff is also available to assist with tour planning.

Location & Accessibility

Le Silve is uniquely situated in a secluded mountain setting, immersed in over 200 hectares of natural landscape, approximately 11-13 km from Assisi. This "out of the way quiet location" is ideal for those seeking a retreat from the hustle and bustle, offering profound tranquility. While the setting provides stunning views and direct access to hiking, mountain biking, and even canyoning within Monte Subasio Natural Park, its remote nature means accessibility can be a concern for some. Guests are advised that there might be about 1.5 km of unpaved, uphill road leading to the hotel, and it is not recommended for low-slung cars. The location has received lower ratings for accessibility from some guests who found it inconvenient.

Value & Pricing

The hotel generally scores "Very good" for value for money, often around 8.2 out of 10. While specific pricing varies by room type and season, typical nightly rates for a double room can range from approximately $127 to $226, with superior and deluxe rooms at higher price points. Guests often feel that the experience, particularly the environment, facilities, and food, makes it a worthwhile cost.

Common Complaints

Despite overwhelming positive feedback, some recurring criticisms exist. The primary complaint often relates to the location and accessibility, with a few guests expressing dissatisfaction due to the remote setting and the unpaved road leading to the property. While overall staff service is praised, isolated instances describe service as "lacking" in some reviews. Additionally, some guests have noted that while rooms are charming, certain bathrooms could be updated.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff in particular was very friendly. All facilities such as the swimming pool and the sauna are highly recommended. I think the authenticity and genuineness of the hotel is its strongest point. Personally I would say to the owners - Don't change it too much. Definitely don't start modernizing to much, etc.. Soon these will be the authentic gems that we will a...

Very nice location! It is absolutely worthy to visit. The location is up at hill and between Asissi and Spello. It feels to be at one private house. We stayed in room 55, which is located downstairs with one incredible view. If possible, take room 56, and you will have a bit more privacy at the corner. The restaurant is perfectly located. You can sit outside and take a relaxed meal. Just be aware ...

We revisited for the first time after 20 years, and were delighted to find this as magical a place as we remembered it to be. A long windy track to get there (better road surface if you approach via Armenzano), but well worth it. A haven of tranquillity with stunning views, wonderful food, charming service and very nice pool (with a second, larger and spectacular infinity pool also available to gu...
