L'Auberge in Langenthal, Switzerland, a Michelin Key Selected property, consistently garners high praise from guests, establishing itself as a charming and refined destination.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The overall sentiment for L'Auberge is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing it as a "beautiful hotel" and a "gem". Review scores for aspects like comfort, staff, and facilities are generally high, often exceeding 8.3 out of 10. Guests appreciate the attention to detail and the inviting atmosphere, often expressing a desire to extend their stay.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently highlight several aspects that make L'Auberge stand out. The "beautiful buildings and grounds" and the "wonderful garden" are frequently mentioned as key attractions. The exceptional restaurant and its culinary offerings are a major draw, as is the friendly and attentive service from the staff. The tasteful and individual design of the hotel, combining historical charm with modern elements, is also a significant highlight.

3. Room Quality

L'Auberge offers 17 individually designed rooms and suites, each with a unique charm that blends historical and modern elements. Guests describe the rooms as comfortable, spacious, and stylishly furnished, often featuring wooden floors and high ceilings. Modern bathrooms with good showers and thick towels are also noted. Some deluxe rooms even feature private saunas, offering a relaxing stay. It's worth noting that a few "retro" rooms have private bathrooms located across the hallway, which some guests might find less convenient. One guest, however, expressed disappointment with the quality of linens and blankets in a villa suite.

4. Dining Experience

The dining experience at L'Auberge is a significant draw, with its restaurant being a Michelin Guide selection and holding 14 Gault Millau points. The cuisine is described as modern French with a Mediterranean influence, emphasizing top-quality, locally sourced ingredients. Guests consistently rate the food as "exceptional" and "delicious." The restaurant offers both modern and elegant dining areas, along with a delightful garden terrace for summer dining.

Breakfast receives positive feedback for being "wonderful," offering local specialties and house creations. However, some guests have noted that breakfast options can be limited, and extra charges may apply for items like fresh orange juice and yogurt with fruit. The hotel also features two bistro areas for simpler, high-quality meals at reasonable prices.

5. Service & Staff

The service and staff at L'Auberge are consistently praised for their friendliness, attentiveness, and hospitality. Guests use words like "excellent," "attentive," "helpful," "lovely," and "convincingly amiable" to describe their interactions. The proprietress, a trained sommelier, is noted for her presence and involvement in ensuring a high-quality experience.

6. Location & Accessibility

L'Auberge is situated in Langenthal, a town recognized as the center of the Bernese Oberaargau region. The hotel is conveniently located, just a five-minute walk from the train station. Langenthal itself is a versatile town known for its blend of culture, tradition, and commerce, having received the Wakker Prize in 2019 for its careful handling of architectural heritage. The town center, partly a vehicle-free zone, offers a variety of local businesses and appealing restaurants, inviting guests to stroll and explore. The area also provides access to scenic hiking and biking routes in the Oberaargau and Emmental regions.

7. Value & Pricing

While specific room rates fluctuate, guests generally rate the value for money positively, with scores around 8.3 on Booking.com. Packages including a five-course gourmet meal, an overnight stay in a double room, and breakfast can be found for approximately CHF 209-224 per person. A buffet breakfast typically costs around CHF 18 per person. Self-parking is available for an additional charge of CHF 10 per day. Given the Michelin Key selection and the comprehensive positive feedback, guests generally perceive the experience to be well worth the cost.

8. Common Complaints

While generally highly rated, some minor recurring issues have been mentioned. These include limited breakfast options or additional charges for certain items like fresh orange juice and yogurt with fruit. One guest noted a squeaky floor in their room. Another reported disappointment with the quality of linens and blankets in a specific villa suite. The absence of a wall-mounted magnifying mirror in the bathroom was also a point of minor criticism for one guest. Lastly, one reviewer found it inappropriate that the final bill prominently featured a tip section.

Been there 3rd week of July. 2 Persons. Very nice garden. Traffic is invisible due to wall, fence, plants. Street noise is well dampened. So not annoying at all. Excellent cuisine. Friendly and attentive service. Nice selection of wines with professional recommendations. Will go there again. Absolutely recommended!! Haven't rated the rooms -- Lunch only. REVIEW UPDATE: Been there twice since first...

The coolest place I think I've ever stayed at. I loved the old school hotel room keys and the entire vibe/aesthetic of the place. It was very quiet and beautiful while I was there. Breakfast was also amazing!

This is a real nice place with interesting rooms. I had an old stove with connected seat in my double room. Everything is clean and maintenaned. Only the shower was slippery. The restaurant is worthy mentioning. Good food and wine. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Thanks for company in the evening. Price quality ratio is very OK. For sure returning here!

I am spoiled and like my air conditioner. But that did not matter here, able to open windows. But that is not why it got 5⭐. Rooms feel like home (comfortable and relaxing), very clean and neat, and can not deny it is in a perfect location. Staff is amazing and the internet is really good, which is a major plus since this was a business trip. Thank you for a memorable stay.

A very nice and cosy hotel with an extremely friendly staff. Boring breakfast with limited choices but very good dinner. Some rooms require to walk up the stair but am sure the staff will be willing to help with the luggage.
