  • Spa & Wellness: The renowned Jamahkiri Spa provides various massage services, facials, and aloe vera body wraps, along with a sauna and gym.

3. Room Quality

The rooms, pavilions, and suites at Jamahkiri are described as spacious, warm, and cozy. They are elegantly designed, combining space, color, natural light, and traditional Thai themes to create a harmonious feel.

  • Comfort: Beds are noted for being very comfortable.
  • Amenities: Rooms come equipped with air conditioning, flat-screen TV, minibar, safe deposit box, and bathrooms with bathtubs. WiFi is available in rooms, around the pool, and in the main restaurant.

  • Cleanliness: Guests consistently praise the cleanliness of the rooms.

4. Dining Experience

The dining experience at Jamahkiri is generally well-received, though with some mixed feedback on pricing.

  • The Terrace Restaurant: This restaurant is lauded for its superb international and classic Thai cuisine, offering an impressive array of options. Guests can enjoy dishes like Tiger prawn in tamarind sauce or Fish of the Day À La Meunière while admiring endless sea views.
  • Breakfast: Breakfast is considered good.
  • In-house Bakery: The resort boasts the only in-house purpose-built and fitted bakery in Koh Tao, ensuring fresh bread and pastries daily.
  • Cocktails: Tasty food and cocktails are also mentioned.
  • Pricing Feedback: Some guests found the hotel restaurant to be overpriced compared to the variety and quality of food available elsewhere on Koh Tao.

5. Service & Staff

The service and staff at Jamahkiri Dive Resort & Spa are consistently highlighted as a major strength.

  • Hospitality: Staff are described as very kind, nice, polite, friendly, and attentive. They are praised for their exceptional hospitality, including proactive communication like email follow-ups and calls before arrival to arrange everything.
  • Attentiveness: Guests appreciate the staff's willingness to go "above and beyond" to assist, such as helping with leg swelling issues.
  • Minor Criticism: One review noted that staff could be a "little cold" and stay out of the way, making it less personal for those who enjoy getting to know hotel staff.

6. Location & Accessibility

Jamahkiri Dive Resort & Spa is situated on the eastern side of Thian Og Bay (also known as Shark Bay) on Koh Tao's southern coastline.

  • Secluded Setting: This location is described as the "most relatively untouched side of the island," providing a peaceful and serene environment.
  • Transportation: The resort offers complimentary pier transfers and a convenient shuttle service to the island's center. While a shuttle is provided, some suggest renting a motorbike for independent exploration of the hilly island.
  • Terrain: The resort is built on a steep hillside, which contributes to the magnificent views from all accommodations. However, this also means there are many stairs throughout the property, which can be challenging for guests with reduced mobility.
  • Water Activities Access: Direct access to Shark Bay allows for excellent snorkeling opportunities. Kayaks, paddleboards, and snorkeling gear are available for rent from the marina.

7. Value & Pricing

While priced higher than the average hotel on Koh Tao, Jamahkiri Dive Resort & Spa is generally considered to offer "exceptional value for money" for a luxury five-star experience.

  • Average Cost: An average room price is around $164, significantly higher than the island's average of $77, yet it is seen as worth the investment for the unparalleled experience. More recent data suggests average weeknight prices around $236 and weekend nights around $189.
  • Seasonal Variation: Prices fluctuate seasonally, with October being the cheapest month (around a 33% price drop) and February being the most expensive (around a 125% price increase).

8. Common Complaints

Despite the overwhelmingly positive feedback, a few recurring criticisms are noted:

  • Extensive Stairs: The most frequent complaint revolves around the numerous stairs throughout the resort due to its hillside construction. This can be particularly difficult for guests with mobility issues or in the tropical heat.
  • Pricing of Dive Center and Restaurant: Some guests found the on-site dive center and the hotel restaurant to be overpriced compared to alternatives found elsewhere on Koh Tao.
  • Staff Interaction: A minor point was raised about some staff being less engaging, preferring to stay out of the way, which might be a slight detractor for guests seeking more personal interactions.

Stayed here in 2023. Just getting around to my review. The staff of this resort were welcoming, friendly, and professional. The rooms are wonderful with exquisite views. The dive shop staff were fun, safe and they knew where to fins the cool stuff. Would not hesitate to recommend Jamakhiri. The only detractor is the distance from town for dining and wandering. But the taxi service is incredibly ...

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this resort - staff were welcoming throughout: reception, restaurant, spa, and diving center... they went above and beyond to provide us with a pleasant new year’s experience. Albeit not the newest, the rooms were very clean and all had a wonderful view of the ocean. Definitely a great resort to relax and dive in one of the most beautiful corners of Koh Tao.

We stayed at Jamahkiri Dive Resort & Spa in Koh Tao, and in our opinion it’s an excellent 4-star hotel. We got a brand new room with a private pool, and we really enjoyed our stay. The room had a small kitchen with a microwave and refrigerator, which was very convenient. The pool was the perfect size for a couple, and the hotel also has a good gym and a really nice spa. Breakfast didn’t have a hu...

Avoid going here, it's really not worth the money or effort. This is with the caveat that I have travelled across Thailand and never encountered such poor service and absolute apathy. My partner had 102 fever and the concierge did not deliver water so he can take medicines (I have screenshots where they basically didn't care). This place has a beautiful property, albeit old and in need of repair...

Very nice resort. Very helpful staff. They give free shuttle service from the pier. Probably one of the greatest view from the hotel in Koh Tao. Since this hotel is on mountain, you have to take few more steps to get to restaurant and pool in the hotel. But that's worth to get such a sea view from the hotel rooms. Rooms are nice and clean.

What can I say… My wife and I came here for our honeymoon — we traveled over 9,000 km to get here! The place itself is beautiful, with stunning views and a relaxing atmosphere. The food was decent, but there’s quite a big mosquito problem, so bring repellent. 💰 Prices Food: fair and reasonable. Attractions: a bit pricey compared to the rest of the island. Rooms: not too expensive — depends on...
