Expert Review: Hotel GIN Budapest

Hotel GIN Budapest, a Michelin Key Selected property, offers a modern and charming boutique experience in the heart of Budapest.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

Hotel GIN Budapest generally receives overwhelmingly positive feedback, with an "Exceptional" rating of 9.4 based on 254 reviews on Expedia. Many guests describe their stay as "wonderful," "amazing," and "highly recommended." The overall sentiment is that of a comfortable, stylish, and well-located hotel with excellent service.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently praise the hotel's prime city-center location, modern and clean design, and the exceptional friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The quiet rooms are also frequently mentioned as a significant plus, allowing for relaxation after exploring the city.

3. Room Quality

The rooms at Hotel GIN Budapest are described as "spotless," "very quiet," "beautiful," and "modern" with a "uniquely design". They feature a "mod-Magyar" style with soft greys, warm woods, and terrazzo tiling in the bathrooms. Comforts include premium bedding, laptop-compatible safes, laptop-friendly workspaces, and air conditioning. Rooms are also equipped with flat-screen TVs, Nespresso coffee machines, minibars, Smeg kettles, and free toiletries. Some rooms offer balconies and city views. While some rooms are noted as being "pretty big" or "very spacious", a few guests have found some rooms to be on the smaller side. A unique design element mentioned is the transparent, tinted shower door.

4. Dining Experience

Hotel GIN Budapest does not have its own on-site restaurant. Breakfast, which is à la carte, is served at a sister hotel, Hotel Rum, located approximately 100 meters (or a few steps) away. Guest opinions on breakfast vary; some describe it as "fantastic" and "lovely" with beautiful views from Hotel Rum's Solid Skybar, while others found the menu choice to be "very limiting," especially for vegetarians, with a set menu that was the same daily. There were also comments about the lack of unlimited coffee or pastries.

5. Service & Staff

The service and staff receive high accolades, frequently described as "fantastic," "exceptional," "courteous," "professional," and "helpful". Guests appreciate the 24-hour front desk, concierge service, multilingual staff, and assistance with tours and transfers. They are noted for being patient with questions and responsive to requests.

6. Location & Accessibility

The hotel boasts an "ideal" and "perfect" central location in Budapest City Centre, specifically in the Pest side near the Hungarian National Museum. It's described as an excellent starting point for exploring the city. Public transportation is highly convenient, with Kálvin Tér Metro station just a few steps or a 2-minute walk away, providing access to the M3 and M4 lines. A bus stop nearby offers direct routes to the airport. Many major attractions are within walking distance, including Eotvos Lorand University, Gellért Thermal Bath, Budapest Christmas Market, St. Stephen's Basilica, Szechenyi Chain Bridge (within 1-2 km), Central Market Hall (6-minute walk), and the Great Synagogue (8-minute walk).

7. Value & Pricing

As of January 29, 2026, prices for a 1-night stay for two adults start from approximately $116.79, excluding taxes and fees. Guests generally find the hotel to be a "budget-friendly" yet stylish boutique option. Many feel it offers good value for its comfort, modern amenities, and excellent location.

8. Common Complaints

  • Off-site Breakfast: The most frequently mentioned inconvenience is having to walk to a nearby sister hotel for breakfast. While some don't mind, others find it inconvenient, especially in cold weather, and note the limited à la carte options.
  • Bathroom Design: A few guests have mentioned a lack of hooks in the bathroom for towels and the design of some shower doors being transparent or not fully containing water, leading to wet floors.
  • Room Temperature/Hot Water Issues: In a few instances, especially during winter, guests reported problems with air conditioning and hot water in some rooms, leading to cold conditions or lukewarm water.
  • Bed Firmness: Some guests found the mattresses to be very hard.
  • Lack of Privacy (Sink in Room): One review noted that the main sink was in the room itself, reducing privacy.

It's a nice hotel with modern style. The rooms are spacious and well designed with space to put clothes away. The shower is also very nice but the water could be warmer. A weird problem is that when flushing the toilet, there is so much pressure that water overflows the lid and ends up on the floor, which is unpleasant but not a deal breaker. Breakfast is located in another hotel 200m away, in a n...

Enjoyed my stay very much. Also managed to benefit from Hyatt explorist membership - it was my birthday in Budapest, they provided champagne and breakfast. Always enjoy staying with Hyatt wherever I can. Receptionist was super nice. Rooms were tastefully designed. Lift available. Netflix & YouTube on tv. I’ll always stay at Gin when I’m back in Budapest.

Excellent location for transport links, food, cafe and nice walks. The hotel smells really nice and is aesthetically pleasing. I felt really comfortable and safe as a solo traveler. My only issues were the room service cleaning and the shower door. I had to ask for sheets so I could change them myself and the floors were never cleaned properly. Also, the shower door slams even when you close it sl...

Its ok..but not great. Its clean and new but... The service doesnt come with a smile and doesnt justify the high ratings on the google reviews. If you read the responses to the reviews that gives a quite accurate picture of the quite sharp service levels. The classic rooms feel more claustrophobic than the floor size due to the sloped roof - because of this it feels small If i returned to budapest...

Amazing. Everything was absolutely amazing. This is - in my opinion - the best location / area to stay in Budapest. 20 minute walk to the center, and there are many lovely routes to choose from to get there. You can walk along the river, in the main street or a few streets in between. There are several small express supermarkets close by for drinks and snacks. The hotel was super clean, very mode...
