Expert Review: Hampton Manor
Hampton Manor in Hampton-in-Arden, a distinguished Michelin Key Two-Keys property, consistently receives high praise for its exceptional culinary offerings, elegant design, and attentive service, making it a celebrated destination for those seeking a luxurious country escape.
Overall Rating & Sentiment
Hampton Manor garners an overwhelmingly positive sentiment, reflected in its Michelin Two-Keys award, signifying an "exceptional stay." Guests frequently describe their visits as "incredible" and "fantastic," with strong recommendations for its unique experiences and high standards. Review platforms show high ratings, such as 9.2/10 on Trip.com and 8.4 on Booking.com.
Key Highlights
Guests consistently laud Hampton Manor as an extraordinary "foodie retreat." The estate's two distinct restaurants, engaging culinary experiences like bakery classes and wine tasting, and the picturesque 45 acres of grounds are frequently highlighted. The blend of luxury, sophisticated design, and a welcoming atmosphere are also key attractions. The property manages to feel both homely and regal, offering a unique ambiance.
Room Quality
Hampton Manor offers 24 individually styled rooms and suites, including lavish options in the main house and chic, Scandinavian-inspired Walled Garden suites. Rooms are thoughtfully designed with a mix of antiques and modern pieces, often featuring velour, nature-inspired wallpaper, and plush furnishings. Guests appreciate amenities such as high-quality bathrobes, free WiFi, sound-insulated walls, fresh coffee grinders, and homemade cookies. Bathrooms are described as spectacular in size, with large tubs and separate showers, stocked with natural botanical toiletries. However, some guests have noted that certain rooms, like the "coach house room," can be small and occasionally lack a safe or a television, which one guest missed for background noise.
Dining Experience
The dining experience is a cornerstone of Hampton Manor's appeal. It boasts two noteworthy restaurants: the Michelin-starred Grace & Savour, renowned for its seasonal tasting menu celebrating impeccably sourced British ingredients, and the more informal Smoke (also referred to as Kynd), which offers a relaxed environment and smoky seasonal plates. Guests can also partake in unique dining journeys like the "Taste of the Estate" in the Tasting Room, offering a view of chefs at work. Breakfast is generally excellent, though some reviews mention slow service or a preference for a full English breakfast over the continental options provided.
Service & Staff
The staff at Hampton Manor consistently receives glowing reviews for their hospitality. Guests describe the team as welcoming, attentive, friendly, engaging, genuine, and always willing to go the extra mile. Many comment on feeling well looked after from the moment they arrive.
Location & Accessibility
Nestled in the quaint village of Hampton-in-Arden, the manor is situated in Shakespeare's Forest of Arden, offering a serene escape within 45 acres of woodland. It is conveniently located about half an hour from Birmingham, with easy access by road and rail, including Hampton-in-Arden station being less than a 10-minute walk away. For accessibility, Hampton Manor offers specially adapted bedrooms (The Ample Room in the main house and a Walled Garden suite) and step-free access to all main public areas and restaurants. The staff is trained to assist with portable ramps and a shuttle service is available across the estate.
Value & Pricing
Hampton Manor is considered a luxury property, and its pricing reflects the high-end experience it offers. Room rates can vary, with typical prices ranging from approximately £133 for a standard room to upwards of £471 for a double room. The average price for a weeknight is around £164, while weekend nights average £328. While guests generally find the overall experience worthwhile, some have expressed that certain rooms, particularly smaller ones, felt overpriced despite the excellent food.
Common Complaints
While overwhelmingly positive, a few recurring criticisms have been noted by guests. These include the small size of some rooms, such as the "coach house room". Some guests have mentioned a lack of a safe in their room and occasional airplane noise due to the proximity to Birmingham Airport, though this is often mitigated by closed windows and air conditioning. Breakfast service has sometimes been described as slow, and one guest expressed disappointment with the continental breakfast options when expecting a full English. The absence of a television in some rooms was also noted as a personal preference not met.

I attended Hampton Manor in Jan 26 and was impressed with the service, facilities and rooms. Our visit began with the hiring of a room for a small business event. The room was spacious, very homely with a fire crackling away but above all the service was fantastic with the most enthusiastic and helpful staff. The rooms for an overnight stay beat anywhere that I have stayed before. Perfectly warm, ...

An incredible overnight stay - once in a lifetime memories! We enjoyed an incredible tasting menu and learnt about the ethos of the restaurant directly from the chef alongside a tour of the grounds and an insightful wine tasting from the sommelier. The room was stunning - every detail had been thought through meticulously!

Had it really amazing night staying here. Had the experience of having an outdoor freestanding bath in my garden! We had the old vinyl record player in the cocktail bar lounge, playing music, cocktail drinking and dancing. I ordered the steak, which was also lovely! All the staff were lovely. Vanessa was a great host! Much better hotel than Hogarths down the road.
