Some rooms are noted to have spacious living areas and excellent private indoor and open-air baths.
4. Dining Experience
The dining experience at Genmyoan is a significant highlight, renowned for its exquisite Kyoto Kaiseki cuisine. The chefs meticulously prepare seasonal multi-course dinners using the most flavorful ingredients, with specialties changing throughout the year (e.g., icefish in spring, tori clams in summer, matsutake mushrooms in autumn, and Matsuba crab or yellowtail shabu in winter). Meals are often served in guests' rooms or in a banquet room, allowing for dining with a grand view. Breakfast is a classic Japanese affair, comprising various small dishes, including two fish options, served with hot rice and tea. Guests have described both breakfast and dinner as amazing, intricate, and made with effort to explain in English.
There is also a Genmyoan Cafe, which is praised for its friendly staff, good selection of food and drinks, delicious and fresh breakfast sets, and organic desserts. The cafe, run by the ryokan, is located near Amanohashidate Station and offers light meals and local produce.

8. Common Complaints
While reviews are largely positive, one guest reported an issue with numerous bugs in their room, restaurant, toilet, and bath, which the hotel attributed to the surrounding environment and stated they were unable to resolve effectively. This particular guest felt the dinner was perfunctory and that the price did not match the safety and experience. Another guest mentioned that while the overall experience was exceptional, the room's sound insulation was poor, and midnight cleaning of the public bath caused disturbance.
