Guests are captivated by the magnificent welcome, genuine kindness, and warm hospitality extended by the entire staff. The hotel's "magical," family-like ambiance, set within beautifully maintained gardens and a sprawling park, is frequently highlighted as a significant draw. Beyond the inviting atmosphere, the attentive service and the two exceptional restaurants are consistently lauded. Amenities such as a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, a lovely terrace, and an 18-hole golf course further enhance the guest experience. The property's unique historical foundation, built upon the ancient Carsac Oppidum, the birthplace of Carcassonne, adds a distinctive layer of charm and heritage.
3. Room Quality
The 19 rooms, suites, and apartments at Domaine d'Auriac are often described as "wonderfully decorated". Each is designed in a chic country style, featuring exposed beams and elegant flowery fabrics, blending old-world charm with modern comfort. Guests can expect amenities such as flat-screen satellite TVs, private bathrooms complete with bathrobes, complimentary toiletries, and slippers. Some accommodations further benefit from separate seating areas and dressing rooms, ensuring a comfortable and spacious stay. Free WiFi is also available throughout the property.
4. Dining Experience
Domaine d'Auriac offers a distinguished culinary journey with two dining options. The gastronomic restaurant, Le Restaurant Bernard Rigaudis, a former Michelin-starred establishment, is celebrated for its refined and excellent French cuisine, prepared by Chef Philippe Deschamps. The menu emphasizes traditional French dishes with a modern twist, meticulously crafted from local produce, including the authentic "Dieu le Fils" cassoulet. The exceptional sommelier service is frequently praised. For a more relaxed setting, the Bistrot d'Auriac provides convivial French and regional cuisine, ideal for family meals. When the weather permits, dining on the terrace, with picturesque views of the gardens and golf course, is a particularly cherished experience. A continental breakfast is available daily for an additional charge of approximately EUR 25.00 per person.
5. Service & Staff
The service and staff at Domaine d'Auriac consistently receive outstanding feedback. Guests frequently commend the "magnificent welcome, kindness, and hospitality". The staff are described as "aux petits soins" (very attentive), "very friendly and attentive," and "caring and always smiling". This dedication to guest satisfaction is reflected in consistently high ratings for staff performance across various review platforms, averaging around 9.6 out of 10.
6. Location & Accessibility
The hotel enjoys a prime location in Carcassonne, surrounded by a magnificent and meticulously maintained park. It is conveniently situated about a 5-minute drive from the iconic Cité Médiévale, a UNESCO World Heritage site. While located near a main street, providing easy access, the property's expansive 4-acre green landscape ensures a hidden and tranquil retreat, despite some potential daytime noise. Accessibility is further enhanced by free private parking on site and its close proximity to the A61/E80 motorway, just 5 km away. Guests also have access to bicycle and car rental services directly from the hotel.
7. Value & Pricing
While considered a luxury property, many guests feel that Domaine d'Auriac offers good "value for money," with a rating of 8.5 out of 10 on Booking.com. Some reviews even highlight "exceptional value for money". Typical nightly rates for a stay at Domaine d'Auriac generally range from approximately $271 to $320, though prices can vary. Guests should also note a city tax of EUR 3.73 per person, per night, for those over 18 years of age.
8. Common Complaints
While overwhelmingly positive, some minor criticisms have been noted. One reviewer mentioned that the interior reception area had a "tired and heavy vintage decor". Additionally, despite its expansive grounds, the hotel's location near a main road can occasionally lead to it being "a bit noisy during the day". However, these points are generally outweighed by the numerous positive aspects of the stay.

Going back in time happens just like that when you enter this domain. The energy, the ambiance, wow. Huge trees, green lawns, lots of flowers. The hotel breathes "the good old days" and has been owned by the same family for generations. Service is excellent. The bed is very comfortable. Love it here. We are at the bistro and we're excited: super good and wine

Excellent dinner! The place has a reputation and delivers up to expectations. Most notably the sommelier presented excellent wine selections with each course, had clear explanations of the wines and good humor. The historic building has atmosphere, and it is not easy to run an upscale hotel in an aged building. But highly professional hotel staff, and their caring and warm service made us forget t...

So sad this restaurant where we used to go since 2010 and where we had our Christmas Eve diners or lunches refused to host us this year because of a “fixe menu”.?!?!? They would not accommodate us. We are vegetarian and had no issues there in the past. This year, it seems like being a vegetarian is not “permitted” to book a table in that restaurant. Sad !

Both the building and the surrounding garden, terrace, and pool have a good atmosphere. The room was spacious. The 1 star Michelin restaurant inside the hotel was very good and the sommelier a very nice person. Things which could be improved: sound insulation with the neighbors' rooms, the power and noise of the very old air conditioner. I would expect this fixed for a 5 star hotel.

A lovely old chateau with much character and excellent service. The staff speaks fluent English and was most helpful in planning day trips and explaining the best sites in the area to see. The upgraded rooms are big and airy with high ceilings and a small a/c unit. The grounds are stunning and there is a river nearby to walk by that leads to the city, river Aude. I can highly recommend this plac...
