Expert Review: Cures Marines

Cures Marines, Trouville-sur-Mer, a distinguished Michelin Key Selected property, consistently garners positive attention for its elegant Belle Époque facade, prime beachfront location, and extensive wellness offerings. While generally highly rated, some guests express concerns regarding value for money and certain room aspects.

Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for Cures Marines is overwhelmingly positive, with guest ratings frequently in the "Excellent" to "Wonderful" range, often scoring above 8.6 out of 10 on various platforms. It is recognized as a 5-star hotel, offering a luxurious experience, particularly for those seeking a wellness-focused stay.

Key Highlights

Guests consistently laud several aspects of Cures Marines. The hotel's "excellent gorgeous" location directly on the iconic Normandy beach, offering panoramic sea views, is a major draw. The extensive spa and thalassotherapy facilities, including a heated seawater pool, hammam, and sensory showers, are frequently highlighted as a standout feature, contributing to a holistic rejuvenation experience. The hotel's historic Belle Époque architecture, blended with contemporary interior renovations, also receives praise for its unique design and ambiance. Attentive staff and an exceptional breakfast are also recurring positive points.

Room Quality

Rooms at Cures Marines are generally described as spacious, comfortable, and modern. They are equipped with thoughtful amenities such as Nespresso machines, Bluetooth speakers, and large televisions. The beds, in particular, receive high praise for their exceptional comfort and quality bedding, promising a restful night's sleep. Design elements often include white and gray tones with blue accents, and some feature unique mother-of-pearl chandeliers. While many rooms boast sea or port views, some guests have noted that certain accommodations can feel small or overlook less desirable areas like a courtyard or service area. Bathrooms are typically modern, though a few guests have found the open-plan design or lack of conveniences like towel hooks or sufficient electrical outlets to be less ideal. Soundproofing is generally effective, contributing to a quiet environment.

Dining Experience

The breakfast buffet at Cures Marines is consistently a highlight, frequently described as "excellent," "sumptuous," and "varied." Guests appreciate the wide selection of high-quality, fresh local products, including made-to-order omelets. The main restaurant, La Galerie, offers refined bistronomic cuisine with a focus on energy-based cooking, utilizing fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients inspired by the Norman terroir. It provides an exceptional seaside setting with panoramic sea views. However, some guests have reported disappointing dinner experiences, citing issues such as long waits for service, misunderstandings, and less-than-satisfactory food quality, like chewy ravioli or oversalted sauce. A snack bar/deli is also available.

Service & Staff

The service and staff at Cures Marines are widely commended as "amazing," "warm," "caring," "helpful," "attentive," and "very kind." Guests have specifically mentioned concierges going above and beyond to make special occasions memorable. The hotel staff is described as professional and dedicated to ensuring a memorable customer experience. Despite the generally high praise, a few guests have reported instances of nonchalant service during check-in or issues during particularly busy periods.

Location & Accessibility

The hotel boasts an "excellent location" directly on the beach, offering convenient access to both the peaceful seashore and the vibrant city center of Trouville-sur-Mer. It is also within walking distance of Deauville and its beach. The Trouville-Deauville Train Station is a short 10-minute walk from the hotel. The surrounding area provides ample shopping opportunities, including a cheese shop, a supermarket (Monoprix), a tea shop, and a food market.

Value & Pricing

While offering a luxurious experience, the value for money at Cures Marines is a common point of discussion among guests, with some finding the rooms small for the price or the overall cost of services, food, and parking to be high. Average room prices range from approximately $227 to $415 per night, with an overall average of around $338. May is typically the cheapest month to stay, while June tends to be the most expensive. Breakfast is priced at EUR 32 for adults.

Common Complaints

Recurring criticisms include the perception that some rooms are small or have less desirable views overlooking courtyards or service areas. Occasional noise from external sources or service areas has been reported, despite generally good soundproofing. The design of some open-plan bathrooms and the absence of certain conveniences like towel hooks or sufficient electrical outlets have also been mentioned. While breakfast is highly praised, dinner at the hotel's restaurant has sometimes been a source of disappointment due to slow service, misunderstandings, and perceived issues with food quality. High pricing for various hotel services, including parking, is another frequent concern. Some guests have also reported issues with spa or pool availability or found the thalassotherapy facilities lacking in certain aspects, such as the size of the main pool or the absence of eucalyptus in the hammam. Isolated instances of stained carpet and cold rooms have also been noted.

Not worth the money or the stars. They sold us a room with no heating (following a terrible previous visit where they promised to upgrade us on this visit). They gave us a portable heater and couldn’t offer a solution when we complained. We needed to remind them multiple times again the next day. We were promised a bottle of champagne to apologize and they forgot to send it…the list of faults con...

The spa experience is below average. The staff is not engaged. There are no bathrobes or slippers — you have to bring them from your room, which is a complete non-sense for a spa. In addition, I find the condition of the sauna absolutely unsatisfactory. I am attaching photos.

Loved dealing with staff on property although not at all impressed with the company reservations team who I dealt with a couple of times but preferred to work with the friendlier and more accommodating team on property. We had one meal at the hotel and it was very poor (not as one expects in France) however we found excellent restaurants for the rest of our meals in Trouville and Deauville. Comf...

The hotel is really nice, extremely well located and of the highest standard. However, it is more designed for persons without kids, as access to the pool is quite limited for kids. Also, the hotel would gain to have better outdoor spaces. The sundeck is quite tiny and the restaurant terrasse is quite limited and oversees the parking. But, this should not hide the fact the staff is amazing, supe...

Splendid palace hotel in Trouville, nearby Deauville. We benefited from a room upgrade and could enjoy a beautiful view on the beach and the sea. Nicely furnished and very well maintained for an overall feeling of elegance in every part of the hotel. Very hospitable, kind and professional service. Nice Bar, terrace, and restaurant with dishes prepared from local sourcing which is a real plus. My w...
