Expert Review: Casa Talia
Casa Talia in Modica, Italy, a distinguished Michelin Key Selected property, consistently earns exceptional praise for its unique charm, breathtaking views, and personalized hospitality. It stands out as a luxurious and serene retreat, embodying a philosophy of "slow living."
Overall Rating & Sentiment
Casa Talia receives overwhelmingly positive feedback, with guests frequently describing their stays as "magical" and "stunning." It boasts high review scores, including a perfect 10 for staff, and 9.8 for cleanliness and comfort. The general consensus is that it offers a truly exceptional and memorable experience.
Key Highlights
Guests are particularly enchanted by the spectacular panoramic views of Modica, especially from the tranquil gardens and the infinity pool. The hotel's unique architecture and interior design, conceived by its Milanese architect owners, Marco and Viviana, are celebrated for their elegant fusion of traditional Baroque elements with modern touches and influences from Greek, Spanish, and Arabic styles. The exceptional service and the delicious, homemade breakfast are also consistently highlighted as significant strengths.
Room Quality
The rooms at Casa Talia are described as "incredible," "beautifully appointed," "aesthetically beautiful and comfortable," and "spacious." Each is part of a lovingly restored small house within the property, featuring vaulted ceilings, exposed stone walls, vibrant tiled floors, and carefully curated antique accents. Many rooms benefit from private terraces or balconies, offering magnificent garden or city views. Modern amenities such as air conditioning and flatscreen TVs are thoughtfully integrated into the traditional design.
Dining Experience
The breakfast at Casa Talia is a major highlight and a central part of the "slow living" experience. Rather than a buffet, guests are personally served a freshly prepared, homemade feast, often enjoyed in the lush garden beneath olive trees with captivating views of Modica. The fare emphasizes seasonal and local ingredients, including homemade frittata, jams made from the property's fig tree, fresh fruits, various breads, delectable cakes, and excellent coffee. Casa Talia does not operate a full-service restaurant for lunch or dinner, but the owners are readily available to recommend local dining establishments or arrange for a private chef.
Service & Staff
The hospitality at Casa Talia receives universal acclaim. Guests consistently describe the staff as "exceptional," "amazing," "helpful," and "welcoming." The owners, Marco and Viviana, are frequently mentioned for their personal attention, genuine interest in their guests, and willingness to provide expert recommendations for exploring Modica and the surrounding area.
Location & Accessibility
Casa Talia is ideally situated in the old Jewish quarter of Modica, a UNESCO-protected Baroque city in the scenic Val di Noto. Its elevated position offers spectacular views over the city's historic skyline. The hotel is conveniently located a short 5-minute walk from the town center. However, due to its hillside setting, accessing the town involves a 10-minute uphill walk with several steep stairs, which may pose a challenge for guests with limited mobility. Free parking is available approximately 200 meters from the property. The location also provides easy access to beautiful beaches, such as Marina di Modica (14 miles away), and other Baroque towns, all within a short driving distance.
Value & Pricing
Recognized as a 4-star experience, Casa Talia's pricing reflects its boutique nature, exceptional design, and high level of service. While specific price ranges can vary, rates may start from around €140 per room per night in the low season. Breakfast is typically included, though Deluxe Suites might have an additional charge for this amenity. Guests generally consider the unique and luxurious experience, combined with the stunning setting and attentive service, to be well worth the cost.
Common Complaints
While overwhelmingly positive, some minor criticisms have been noted. The presence of several steep stairs throughout the property makes it unsuitable for guests with limited mobility. Additionally, a few guests have mentioned a lack of sufficient storage in some rooms, and in certain accommodations (specifically Zenzero and Casa Buendia), showers are reportedly hidden behind curtains rather than being in fully enclosed ensuites.

Really loved staying here. It’s so gorgeous and I loved having breakfast on the terrace. If you’re driving, make sure you know where you are going (they will send you a message via WhatsApp before you arrive). I definitely recommend having a car so you can visit neighboring cities and towns.

I think this is the most beautiful place to stay in Modica, with the most stunning view of the city. The owner is a very lovely architect, who had a clear vision of this accomodation and is realizing it step for step. He created a beautiful boutique hotel with a little garden, where you can sit, enjoying the view. The breakfast is homemade, with lots of love.
