The family-owned establishment is lauded for its personal touch and the genuinely friendly, attentive, and helpful staff who create a welcoming atmosphere. The hotel's location in a beautifully renovated traditional Basque house, coupled with its peaceful setting and proximity to the beaches, are also key advantages.

3. Room Quality

Brikéténia features 14 guest rooms and suites that blend Basque tradition with a contemporary spirit, creating a bright, refined, and cozy ambiance. Rooms are described as comfortable and clean, often featuring large double beds and well-fitted bathrooms. Essential amenities include minibars, kettles, and Nespresso coffee makers, along with air-conditioning and blackout drapes for restful sleep. Some Grand Comfort rooms offer furnished balconies, perfect for unwinding or enjoying breakfast, while one even boasts a hydrotherapy bath and an Italian shower. Guests seeking a walk-in shower should specify this when booking, as not all bathrooms are equipped with one.

4. Dining Experience

The dining experience at Brikéténia is a significant highlight. The property hosts a renowned 1-star Michelin gastronomic restaurant, where father and son chefs Martin and David Ibarboure craft modern, inventive, and sophisticated French cuisine. Dishes emphasize fresh, seasonal, and local produce, resulting in beautifully presented and delicious meals served in the dining room or on the terrace with picturesque views of the Basque mountains. In addition to the fine dining experience, there is also a more casual bistro-style restaurant, "Briket'Bistrot," offering quality ingredients and fresh flavors at regular prices. Breakfast, which is continental or buffet style, receives a high guest review score of 8.5. Restaurant menu prices range from a weekday lunchtime set menu at €52 to a seasonal menu at €92 and a grand tasting menu at €125. Continental breakfast is an additional charge of approximately €15 for adults.

Situated on the heights near the church, it's about a 10-minute walk to the beaches. The hotel provides plentiful free parking across the road, and its location is convenient for travelers exploring the Basque Country or en route to Spain, Portugal, or Morocco.

7. Value & Pricing

With an average room price of around $146 per night, Brikéténia is generally considered to offer exceptional value for a high-end, 4-star hotel with a Michelin-starred restaurant. While some room rates may reach approximately €250 per night, guests often find the overall experience, especially the quality of the dining and service, justifies the cost.

8. Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, a few isolated criticisms have been noted by guests. One recurring issue, though infrequent, relates to the internet connection, which some guests found to be slow and unreliable, experiencing regular drop-outs. Another minor design flaw mentioned was an almost invisible glass shelf above the kettle and coffee maker in one room, leading to accidental bumps. A guest also noted a limited amount of outside space to sit out in the evening compared to the bistro area.

This is a review of the restaurant- but seriously may have been the best meal we’ve ever gone to. I’m vegetarian and they curated ten courses of vegetarian food to accommodate the tasting menu my partner was having, with an incredible and thoughtful pairing of wines. The servers and somm were super friendly and accommodating of our requests and the dinner was honestly incredible. Can’t say enough ...

Finding a place to park was a bit challenging. The restaurant was clean and inviting. The view from the rear dining patio was lovely. The food was incredible and I would very likely return for outdoor dining. The chef even visited us at the end of the meal to ensure that everything was to our liking. Overall, it was an exceptionally pleasant experience.

Great restaurant with taste of local food at gastronomy level. I took my friends from Thailand here and she like the food here more than the Michelin star 1,2 and 3 in Paris. She said it is the best restaurant in her trip (from Paris to Mont Saint Michel, St Malo, Britany, Biarritz and down to San Sebastián). The food is super great and also the service, atmosphere of the restaurant is even make t...

We had an amazing experience in the Bistrot. Service was excellence and extremely profesional. The food was delicious and the price was really reasonable. The atmosphere created was ideal for a Sunday in the middle of summer. Highly recommended!

My go-to when I am in the Basque region! Not only has the food always been spectacular but the team there really makes the experience memorable. This hotel-restaurant is an old family house and this is conveyed as soon as you go through the front door: everyone there will make you feel like you are part of the Briketenia family. An example of what hospitality should be about. P.S.: views from the...

Modern, elegant building and interior design. Very comfortable beds and spacious rooms. Some rooms have a more awkward arrangement of space, couples should be very comfortable with each other sharing the space :). Beautiful architecture and highly recommended location. Tasteful and great quality breakfast but a bit limited in quantity (maybe needs more staff). Easy access from motorway
