2. Key Highlights
Guests are particularly captivated by the serene and beautiful location, the impeccable facilities, and the breathtaking culinary experiences. The magnificent gardens and the beautifully restored historical buildings are frequently highlighted. The thoughtful architecture and attention to detail, creating a "modern rural style" that feels well thought out, also receive significant appreciation.
3. Room Quality
The rooms at Boen Gård are consistently described as very comfortable, clean, and of a high standard in terms of finishing and furnishings. They are designed in a classy, modern rural style, often incorporating historical items and offering beautiful views, such as those overlooking the river. Many rooms are located in two historical buildings by the river, combining rustic charm with modern comfort. Bathrooms are noted as a significant upgrade with modern Scandinavian design. Some guests have specifically praised the "divine beds."
4. Dining Experience
The dining experience at Boen Gård is a major highlight, frequently lauded as "breathtaking," "spectacular," and "exquisite." The restaurant, led by Chef Tomasz Rochon and Maitre D' and Sommelier Dagfinn Galdal, offers elegant dishes rooted in classic French cuisine but with a modern twist, heavily emphasizing local, seasonal, and often organic ingredients sourced directly from the farm's gardens, meadows, and the Tovdalselva river. Dinners typically consist of an elaborate 5-8 course menu, with wine pairings that enhance the experience. While the dinner is consistently praised, some guests have described the breakfast as "lovely" or "excellent," though a few found it "simple" or "disappointing" in comparison to the dinner, and one review mentioned it being a "free continental breakfast".
5. Service & Staff
The service and staff at Boen Gård receive overwhelmingly positive feedback. Guests consistently describe the staff as "extremely pleasant," "super friendly," "nice," "top tier," and "incredibly helpful." Many appreciate that nothing is too much trouble for the staff, and their dedication contributes significantly to a unique guest experience.
6. Location & Accessibility
Boen Gård is situated in a serene, bucolic setting by the Tovdalselva river, surrounded by beautiful gardens and natural landscapes. It offers a peaceful environment, perfect for a getaway. The property is about a 15-minute drive from downtown Kristiansand and approximately 15 minutes from Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park. The location also provides opportunities for activities such as hiking, cycling, cross-country skiing (seasonally), and especially salmon fishing right on the premises.
7. Value & Pricing
While some guests have noted that the rooms were "reasonably priced" and expressed that the overall "value for money was brilliant," the elaborate multi-course dinner, while exceptional, can be expensive for the quantities provided. The restaurant's price range per person for dining is typically between NOK 500 - NOK 1,000.
8. Common Complaints
Recurring criticisms are minimal for Boen Gård. The primary complaint noted is the lack of an à la carte option for dinner, with guests sometimes not knowing what would be served until each course arrived, making the fixed menu a potential issue for those with specific preferences or smaller appetites. A few guests also found the breakfast to be "simple" or "disappointing" compared to the high standard of dinner. One isolated complaint mentioned a small room with shared facilities, though a lovely suite was offered as an alternative for the same price.

We tried 10 course dinner . Score is 7 of 10. The chef hade some problems with balance the courses . But the servic was impeccable!! Can also say the same about the rooms and facilities. Good and a place I really want to recommend. But be aware the prices is a bit steep. 1 night with 10 course 4 glasses of champagne 7700 Norwegian kroner. Around 760 euro :)

An amazing experience. Cosy room with river views. Exceptional food with wine selection. Caters for all dietary requirements. Pleasant walks along river (with friendly sheep) and in garden. Costly but well worth it! Would love to go again.

A very nice location with fantastic gourmet food. The restaurant is located along the river near the forrest. Almost, if not all, food is locally sourced and combined to great surprising dishes. None of the 5 courses dissapointed us and the wine/juice pairing was excellent. Service was excellent and to the point. We will be back.
